Just what if....

And if the hawks came out and beat Tennessee..... ?

Would people be frustrated, still fuming...?

What if they beat Tennessee handily? Then what? Some would rush to post, how they aren't fooled and how they know best that Ferentz should be gone.

Honestly, what would beating a 6-6 Tennessee team prove? They still wouldn't have a victory over an FBS team with a winning record this year. The result of this bowl game is really meaningless; win or lose it doesn't prove or disprove anything. It's just another game between two average football teams. Yawn.

Agreed, the outcome of this bowl game doesn't change anything for me one way or another. Win, it's another win over a team with a losing record. Lose, and it's just another loss, but I'm already upset with the state of the program, so a loss doesn't change me from "happy" to "not-so-happy". No impact, really.

What it will take for me is a good season of 9-10+ wins with a couple wins over ranked opponents and/or winning record. Finishing ranked ourselves would do it. This year, that boat has sailed.

I'll watch because I enjoy bowl games, not because I think this game has any real significance.

But what if the gameplan and play calling isn't to blame, and the loss is due to players not executing or playing poorly (just like the Maryland game).

Then would people still cry KirFer must go!?!? I think we know what the answer is.

Kirk's gameplan made it hard to beat crappy teams when we were loaded with nfl talent so I'll go out on a limb and say his game planning is a serious issue.

Yes, it will take wholesale changes. Jon Miller and Steve Deace had an end of season podcast where the outlined that only 7 of the top 25 use pro-style offenses. High school kids are playing spread and pistol offenses. Seven on 7 football is growing and is almost year round in warm climate states. Skill position kids are more ready to play in college than ever before. According to Jerry DiNardo, Iowa now is at least 1a, 1b or 1c in top notch facilities. Why spend that on 2 and 3 star kids? Top talent will come to Iowa, particularly now that Iowa has the bells and whistles. If our coach wants to be a part of that and is willing to make changes, great. It is obvious to us all that he isn't willing to make those kinds of changes.

Regarding the bowl game, kfootball could put in the basics of a new offense in 15 practices. He could showcase this to recruits and then go on a recruiting blitz for skill players until signing day. But, kfootball isn't likely to do this.

If you were going to make the same amount of money even if you spent countless extra hours working, would you? Barta really needs to give huge bonuses for bringing home bowl championships.

I'm not a big fan of the whole sale changing of coaching styles... Talk about setting the program back even more. That takes 2 to 3 yrs at best and that is assuming the new coaches first recruiting class he hits a home run with along with the inherited ones playing well in it. If your playing odds I'd say there are better odds Ferentz can get a 9 or 10 win season before a new coach changing to a spread could...

Who recruits and coaches these players? If they aren't good enough or execute well enough to win, then who is that on? We all know truly it is KIRK FERENTZ, but just stick to blaming players and giving Kirk a pass it is easier that way for people like you.

I think the Tennessee outcome, win or lose, will have absolutely no effect on Kirk ... Gary has publicly declared Kirk is his man ...

Any fan of the B1G should be rooting for every B1G team to win their bowl game. Especially over the SEC. The image of the conference is what's most important. The outcome won't have any impact on Kirk's seat. We're talking about Gar Bar here. He'll spin the situation however he needs to. Probably have some quote like "came up just one game short of a bowl championship" or something like that. I'm hoping we roll em...$%&@ the SEC!!!

I will tackle this one;

IF Iowa wins on January 2nd, 2015 then I will be a happy Hawkeye fan as we beat a team that we should easily beat on any given day on a neutral field. A team that finished 3-5 in the SEC conference and 6-6 overall. A team that hasn't sniffed a bowl for the past 3 years. A team that has a terrible running game and a passing game that isn't much better. A team that is statistically inferior to Iowa in nearly every way.

We score more points.
We allow fewer points.
We pass for more yards.
We run for more yards.
Our QB is a JR
Their QB is a SO
Our coach gets paid $4m+ per year
Their coach gets paid $3.6m per year

Those people would be called, correct.
