Just went through my first set of Big Ten FB Predictions

and I was surprised at how well I had PSU doing and how 'poorly' I have Wisconsin doing, given their ranking and what they return..don't like Wisky's schedule set up for a BCS bid. I also am getting more bullish on Michigan.

Will publish my Big Ten picks sometime over the next two weeks...

I think @ Ann Arbor is going to be our second toughest game of the season behind Ohio State.

It's not a good matchup for our defense at all. They came into a raucous Kinnick stadium last year with a true freshman QB, and had a chance to win in in the final minute. They ran all over us too.

Re-watch the Iowa vs. Michigan game and look at some of the plays and you'll see we really lucked out on multiple occasions. There were maybe 3 or 4 plays in that game that were huge and somewhat lucky on our part.

@Zona scares me a lot more than Michigan. Dont forget that Iowa missed a lot of chances and made a lot of mistakes in that Michigan game....plus we played like *** at home last season for some reason

Bingo. Michigan and Arizona also got pick 6's that made the games closer than they should have been. Michigan never had the ball past midfield when it was a one possesion game.

One thing the Deacer always says about road games is that you have to pack a defense. Iowa has a pretty ******* good defense.

I think the Arizona game could be more difficult from the standpoint of preparation and travel.

Arizona is played the week after the always emotional Iowa State game.

Iowa will travel to Michigan but have two weeks to prepare due to the bye week the weekend of Oct. 9.

Both road games present challenges but you could argue Zona is a tougher trip due where it falls on the schedule and travel/weather factors.

I think the travel portion of it is over-rated, and Iowa won't need to expend a whole lot of emotion to beat Iowa State.

The only people who are emotional for the IA vs ISU game are the fans and MAYBE a few local players. The rest could give a crap less about that game over any other.

Double Bingo.

Some people will underscore the travel, but it is clearly a factor. The game is being played at 9:30 Iowa time, and with only a week to prepare, that is hard to account for. Add to the equation that Arizona is a more than adequate opponent, and you have an opportunity for a very tough game. If it weren't for all of my confidence in Kirk & Co., I'd be more than inclined to mark this down as an "L".

Honestly, I think Michigan could stumble early at ND,and be reeling when we play them. That program is on the edge of disarray with NCAA sanctions coming, and the pressure will be tremendous. Graham and Warren were a huge part of their defense, which was bad anyway and they are gone. Not saying we will roll them, but I think at Az,Wis,at NW and OSU will be tougher.

Hasn't Michigan switched to a defensive scheme designed to stop the spread? Doesn't that mean less physical up front? Doesn't that play right into our hands? Won't we be content to take those short gains and first downs all day, letting our defense rest? Hasn't Norm and our defense probably caught on to Michigan's offense a bit more by now? Doesn't it come to down to more physical players at this point, which we have?

Michigan doesn't scare me. I think winning in the Big House is a goal Iowa's players will want to check off, especially since none of them have done it and the seniors won't get another shot to win in the Shoe. Iowa will circle this game and thrive on the road, like this group of veterans always does.

I dont think Michigan fits the spread , I really think they are a pro style kind of team plus we didnt play those guys for two years even know we didnt play well that in the game last year, I think we wont have any trouble beating them this year, also I think we dont really have any trouble defending spread teams like everyone says we do.we play so many last year even Michigan our D will be ready.

Hawks did very well agains't what was considered a very good spread team in GT. I know we had a lot of time to prepare for that...just sayin

You don't think Michigan fits the spread? You think they are a pro style kind of team? Do you know anything about college football?

And for you AIRHAWK. "Hawks did very well agains't what was considered a very good spread team in GT. I know we had a lot of time to prepare for that...just saying"

Georgia Tech is not the type of spread we struggle against, and I would not even consider Georgia Tech a spread offense. They are a triple option/veer offense which runs a lot out from under center.

The type of offenses we've struggled with more than any other has been offenses that spread the field with WR's and run almost exclusively out of the gun with a RB in the backfield where they run read draws and play action passes.

For those of you who want to talk about the pick 6 we threw against Michigan... why don't you also mention the "5" turnovers Michigan had. "5" turnovers is not normal and it is highly unlikely they will even have "3" turnovers this year when we play them. We had "1" turnover against them.

Michigan had 5 turnovers, on the road at Kinnick in the night, with a freshman quarterback who was battered during the game. They only lost to us by 2 points, they only trailed in TOP by a little over 4 minutes.. They racked up almost 200 yards rushing and they held us to only 83 rushing yards. We were also 3 of 3 for Fg's. We miss just one of those and we lose to a team that turned the ball over 5 times.

Mich wont be much better than last year. Defense will be about the same, added experience but subtracted talent.
If they start Shoelaces, there will be major growing pains on the offensive side of the ball.

Yea I know Michigan runs the spead I just type it in wrong, I just dont see Michigan beating use this year, our Dline is going to come in with the attitude we let certain teams move ball on use least year on the ground not this year. The game that comes to mind last year was Ohio State they ran the ball will well against use and if we would have of stop the run, TP was not going to beat use with his arm, thats a game we gave away. Lets hope our Dline comes ready to play every game.

All of the Big Ten teams are tough. You can't take any of them for granted. Heck, we almost lost to Indiana at home last year.

The good news is that we have a very strong defense and a lot of playmakers returning on offense. Iowa should have a chance to win every game on its schedule this fall. But if we do not play well or if we commit turnovers(or suffer critical injuries), losses will happen. It is the nature of college football in the Big Ten.

Michigan ran all over us at times last year. They also lost the guy who did that.

This. Minor, Carlos Brown, and a couple other guys are all gone. I'm pretty sure the last time I checked, either Forcier or Robinson was the leading returning rusher.
