First half – a very good 20 minutes, really tough defense to start and the hawks were playing good technique with feet getting into position, going vertical and not reaching a lot.
Marble and White solid the whole game and definitely on the plus side.
They won on the glass and in transistion.
Thought the screen and curl offense looked about as good as all year in the half court. Hawks got a lot of good looks pretty easily.
It almost looked like they were so loose playing in the PTLeague.
I did notice at the 16:40 mark of the first half there was a loose ball in front of the Iowa bench they called out of bounds of Woody and Fran and the whole bench were saying no way. I noticed Fran was really ****** and yelling at that old gray haired ref even then.
Gesell had a plus first half as did uthoff. Gesell made a couple good steals and passes and buckets but he had some trouble on defense guarding the bigger, burlier Wisky guards.
Basabe good on boards and defense but I wish he would look to shoot and drive and dunk some more so it balances the floor and takes some pressure off white and marble.
The second half – Well Wisky came out right away more physical on defense and double teaming some and just like in the Nova game I don’t think the hawks handled the tougher defense very well.
There was that 8 minute section of the game from about the 15 minute mark to 7 minute mark where hawks were chasing on defense , giving up good 3 ball looks and Wisky got hot. And at the same time Iowa had a dry spell. It was almost exactly like the Nova game. The hawks need to find a way to get out of these scoring droughts by maybe having some really good set plays.
And it looked like the hawks got tired or just lost their defensive technique because the defense was less efficient in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half.
Again, as many have said, missed FTs and a cold shooting spell doomed them.
As far as officials, they were pretty inconsistent as they would call bumps 18 feet from the bucket as fouls but I thought they missed a lot of fouls on both teams during rebounds and especially followup up shots when fouls need to be called.
