Just got back from the game

I have to say that couldve been the worst division 1 game ive ever seen. Iowa didnt even play good and we still dominated. Indiana has a long long ways to go (as do we). Good to win on senior night but between the 100 fouls called and the level of play that was a pretty sad display of division 1 basketball. The most exciting part of the game was almost catching a Pancheros t shirt

Don't know it it was simply Indiana's ineptitude, or the number of fouls called, or me being a bit tired, but after attending the game, I'm afraid I had the same reaction as the OP. I'm a diehard Iowa BB fan and a huge fan of Div. I basketball in general and this game almost made we want to go into rehab. Move over, Tiger, I hope they got another room.

Why, what'd you do to relieve your stress from attending this game?

(Maybe I don't want to know.)

In Ball Four, Jim Bouton has a great passage about watching how inept the Yankees were in 1969. He compares it to amateurs wearing the same uniforms as Mantle and Ford. It just looked surreal. That is how it is for me to watch the Hoosiers.

Iowa didn't even play well and dominated.

I think they played very well but shot poorly. Had they hit a decent percentage of 3's we would have had a 30 point lead. Nothing was falling, including free throws until the end.

Despite the outcome, this was an extremely painful game to watch. When the refs are calling fouls to the point where there is absolutely no flow to the game, and it deteriorates into a glorified free-throw shooting contest - that isn't basketball.

I hate games like that and I wish they would have just let the two teams play and bump a little.

I thought the Big Ten was supposed to be physical?

I agree that the game was really unwatchable but more from the refs standpoint than anything Iowa was doing. I thought other than our lack of hitting 3's that we played pretty well, which is actually refreshing to see.

I was absolutely horrified (and I can't imagine at how Indiana fans feel) about the Hoosiers lack of interior defense. They weren't exactly trying to stop a team w/ a great inside presence and ability to get to the rim.

Agreed, it wasn't Iowa's play that was killing me last night, it was the constant stoppage in play. I also thought the team played relatively well, and it was more the case of the outside shots not falling. If they had fallen at a decent clip, we may have won that game by closer to 30.

I'm not sure what the deal is with Indiana. I know they are very young as well and lost Creek to injury, but they almost seem to be regressing.. History says that Crean will get it turned around, but I have to believe Hoosierland will be running out of patience every bit as quickly as we are with Lickliter. That is a fan base that is used to winning at a very high level..

Wonder if Indiana would want to trade Crean for Lick?

I watched on TV and I agree. Neither team looked like they had D-1 talent (or whatever its called these days.)

I wouldn't make that trade right now as an Iowa fan...and I wouldn't have said that until the last few months. I thought Crean was going to be a force. But losing your starting PG doesn't make you give up uncontested layups. They have some talent, probably more than Iowa, and they have just fallen apart.

Maybe Crean will get it turned around but losing one player should not make that much difference especially when you have a transfer like Rivers as a backup.

I make the trade. Crean can recruit. Creek was their shooting guard, and averaged 17 pts a game...he put up 31 vs Ky...on 13 shots from the field. Huge loss.

Their inside guys need muscle..if they put on Fuller type muscle, Watford and Elston will be very good, but they are frosh this year and frosh big men always lack bodies.

I thought their best performance of the year came in the loss at home to Ohio State. We actually led most of the game and should have won. Just couldn't close out. But I think that by far that was our best performance.
