Junior Day

I saw the an article in today's paper written by Pat Harty of the Iowa City Press-Citizen about Iowa hosting a junior day event Saturday on campus and it read as follows:

The attention now shifts to the 2015 recruiting class.

Two of the state's top junior quarterbacks--Iowa City Regina's Drew Cook and Dowling Catholic's Ryan Boyle--will be among approximately 30 juniors from Iowa and from several Midwestern states in attendance. Cook and Boyle both led their teams to state titles this past season and to 14-0 reords.

Drew Cook also will attend a junior day event at Indiana University the following weekend. He was invited to a junior day at Illinois, but it's scheduled for the same time as Iowa's event on Saturday.

Marv Cook, Drew's dad and Regina's coach, played tight end at Iowa and in the NFL. He recently sent a highlight tape of Drew's junior season to several Big Ten schools.

"I love Big Ten football," Marv Cook said. "I'm a Big Ten football fan. I love all those schools."

I wonder who some of the other visitors will be attending this event.

I stumbled across one from Wisconsin for 2015 as follows:

RB Ricky Williams Edgerton, WI--Led state in rushing with 2,349 yards (9.5 per carry); he was an AP all-state selection, the first for Edgerton [enrollment: 538] since 1966.

I think those QB's will be looking elsewhere for schools unless they plan on walking on. Doubtful Iowa takes two QB's in next years class.

This. I have no idea why he's focusing on QBs, other than the fact that he's a clueless idiot in general.

Kato, what is your angle on all of this? Also, maybe everyone would have some interest if this wasn't about QB position

Nice to know one of the top candidates in the country in the Class of 2015, DE Jashon Cornell (Minneapolis), is reported be in for Junior Day and not his first visit to IC. Of course all the powerhouses are after him as well. We have the need at position, location/proximity, pre-major offerings, and coaches that would seem to pair up well to be contenders in this battle.

A comment from him this summer...........

" I'm just going through the process of checking out all the coaches," Cornell said. "Seeing what they're about and what their program is about, and how I would fit in their scheme.
"The thing I'm looking for the most is education," he said. "Education is the most important thing in my family. I'm looking for one of the top business schools in the country. That's what I'm probably going to major in, pre-business or pre-law, so I'm just looking for the best school that has that program."

Cornell has visited quite a few times actually. I think we atleast can be in his top 5 or 3 when he picks someone else over us. It really is big that Beneventi committed so early b/c he has been contacting recruits constantly on twitter including Jaelan Austin from TX, Cornell, Hilliard and others. It will be great if they make it to campus.

A true student-athlete, with an emphasis on student!!! That's impossible. I don't want him. I want the guy SEC bound that can't even spell pre-law.

Boyle won't walk-on at Iowa. He will have plenty of options elsewhere, but if he ends up at Iowa he won't be a QB.

I think this thread needs to go in a whole different direction. Who gives a rats azz about boyle and cook. I would rather find out what recruits besides Austin, Cornell, Beneventi, and Hilliard will be at this junior day. It seems that the 2015 class could possibly be our best ever. I hope our new, younger staff goes balls to the wall and get these kids. Hoping to see the Paulsen twins commit after junior day. Jack Beneventi has the potential to be the best recruiter on our staff, and he doesn't even require a salary. If he and Levi Paulsen take to the social media circuit like they have been, they will pull in a few recruits that are on the fence. JB seems to be very excited with his decision.

It'll be interesting to see how the junior day goes with the ones scheduled to be here for the weekend. An early jump on potential 2015 recruits is a positive.

Names starting to leak out on 247 Sports. I counted about 15 names (all from border states with exception being a couple from IN) so far but 25 reportedly coming........a few 2016 candidates as well.

One cancellation thus far due to weather.
