I know football programs rely on JUCO transfers to help boost their program & am wondering if Iowa would consider some JUCO players, especially at LB. I mentioned a RB as well.

Why would Iowa need a JUCO rb? Everyone returns and we already have to good commits in Hilliard and Smith.

LB Dvonta/D'Vonta Derricott 6'2" 215 lbs. Henrico, VA (Garden City Community College)--Offers from Kansas State (soft verbal), Miami (FL) (high interest), Akron, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, East Carolina, Houston, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Marshall, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina State, North Texas, OKlahoma State, Oregon State, South Alabama, South Florida, TCU, UAB, West Virginia & Wisconsin.

Our coaching staff would have zero interest in a player unless he has several offers from MAC schools

I would like to see us go after Shaquille Wells out of Iowa Western. Former DSM Hoover kid (IIRC) who threw shot put. If you know anything about DSM football, the coaching you receive at the DSM proper city schools is ... um ... not quite what you get at the schools in the suburbs like Dowling, Valley, Urbandale, S.E.P and Waukee.

I think he is like Mike Daniels... 6'0" 300 and powerful. Could be a good DT. I will try to find a picture of him from the DSM Register during the Drake Relays a couple of years ago...

Edit - here's a video from local news station as he prepares for the state wrestling tournament: Urbandale's Shaq taking down EVERYONE - Bing Videos

here's how he did in the ShotPut for Urbandale (apparently his family moved to Urbandale for his junior year): Shaquille Wells (Urbandale) Track and Field Stats - DyeStat.com TFX - The Internet Home of High School Track, Field and Cross Country

finally, here is a video showing Shaq throwing the state winning shot of 59' 7" this past spring: DAY TWO: Coed State Track & Field | WHOTV.com

Exactly. We're set at RB. We actually kind of have a log jam going on right now. A good problem to have, I suppose.

LB though? I think we could use some help there, especially some more depth. I wonder if they're targeting any JUCO's right now? Any of the recruiting gurus have any insider info on this? I'm assuming that if the staff isn't actively pursuing JUCO's at LB, then they must be pretty comfortable with what we have coming back. Just a lot of unproven guys waiting in the wings since we've been set at LB for so long now. Who knows, maybe they've had guys really flash in practice, but it's not like they were going to play over Morris, Hitches, or Kirksey.

The staff must be perfectly happy with the young talent at LB. We are bringing in Mends and Outsey here in '14. Last year ('13) we brought in Jewell, Kenny, & Spearman. Then add in Alston, Perry, Fisher, and Taylor. They must like what they have, or they would be looking at some JUCO options.

So to confirm, they're not pursuing any JUCO's right now at all? I think you're more in the loop than I, in regards to recruiting.

Actually I'm not in the loop, just haven't seen any JUCO LB popping up on the recruiting stuff.
