JR transfer rumor question

I don't think JR has any intention of going elsewhere, but since there are rumors here I wonder if anyone else with more knowledge of NCAA rules than I can help out because I find a problem with that scenario.

People here have talked about the possibility of a JR transfer because he will have graduated. My understanding is that if you have graduated you may transfer without a redshirt to another school to pursue an area of study that your current university does not offer. I'm assuming he still wants to be a doctor, I'm pretty sure the University of Iowa still gives degrees in docterin'

I didn't look into it, am I wrong with my assumption or would he have to change his studies to make this scenario plausible?

Easy, you make a career choice change & decide to that this school offers that and play another year. After that said year, get back on the medical track. :D

The Graduate Transfer Waiver was the original transfer rule and that covers what you just described...transferring to another school that has your graduate program. The newer "Graduate Transfer Exception" rule basically says that as long as you have received at least your bachelor's degree, have a year remaining of eligibility and your current school releases you from your scholarship, you can transfer wherever you want to and not sit out a year. Per current NCAA rules, only undergraduates must sit out a year.

What I find most interesting/appalling is that now you read about a lot of elite high school QB's looking to "streamline" their college classes and graduate college in 3 years so that they have the option and eligibility to transfer and play immediately once they graduate. Its like they plan to transfer before they even step on campus unless they play.

The NCAA really needs to crackdown on this before it becomes more absurd than it already has. I read there was something like 17-20 QB transfers who were eligible to play in 2014...that includes of course Cody Sokol who graduated from Iowa and transferred to LA Tech.

Jake isn't transferring away for 1 year of football, when his career track is right in front of him in Iowa City. I could see him stepping away from football to pursue studies full time.

He is not going to med school anywhere else. There is no way he could be a first year med student and play football. So he would have probably go start a graduate program in something that Iowa did not offer. Does not have to be related to his degree necessarily

I don't believe Jake would transfer, but what the heck do I know? If all it takes for him to transfer is to be demoted to number 2 on the depth chart, that would be pretty weak. Seems to me Jake is mentally stronger than that. I'm over athletes threatening to leave if they don't get what they want. If they stay they stay, if they go they go.

transfer? why? ohio state is on their 3rd QB this year. stick it out

If he thinks he can play elsewhere I honestly wish he would. He's almost done with his undergrad degree anyway. Or not transfer and concentrate on med school. He's had his opportunity and I thank him for his contribution to the team. But his future lies in medicine, not football.

If he's not with the team going forward, this would be the route I think he chooses, too. I'm sure he loves football, but he's also smart enough to know that if he no longer wants to play football at Iowa, he might as well just hang it up and focus on med school.

I think the point being missed is the "way" he has lost the job.

Is Beathard better? Probably. But not to the degree idiots like ThunderHawk think. Watch the Taxslayer Bowl again. Beathard sucks, but is AWESOME against Tennessee's 2nd and 3rd team D. Seriously, he is.

Jake "lost" the job because of an inept OC. Now folks like JDM say GD will be here next year because "his man" is taking snaps. To paraphrase Deace--and nobody should EVER feel comfortable doing that--Beathard was no better in the bowl game. He made some plays, but most of anything he did that was appreciably better came against non-starters.

If you were JR, would YOU stay if GD kept HIS job, but you lost YOUR job?

I know most of you grovel at Miller's feet, but in spite of his new-found buddies that have been clamoring for CJB since mid-season (yes, JDMs hindsight is is good as everyone else's)--even in practice--the fact is, CJB is "slightly" better, if that.

I've seen posts from people asking why they should watch the Hawks in 2015, or why we should believe there will be positive changes in 2015, or why KF will NOT change in 2015. So I put the shoe on a different foot: Why should Jake stay around for this (as most are calling it) dumpster fire? Let CJB see how it feels to have an idiot OC, and/or a disconnect between HC and OC and/or an OL that doesn't execute and/or RBs who are not B1G caliber. Many are saying Kirk "chased" Willies off. Same could be said of Jake. The difference? The frothers "love" Willies and "hate" Jake.

Since we know he's smart, we can guess he has seen these boards. So, again, why should he stay?

I think Jake is a great kid, very humble and on the right path in life. I think (think meaning it's my opinion) CJB is the better QB. That being said, tell me please how you would expect either of those QBS to get in any kind of rythm with the idiotic rotation they were put in during that game?

CJB had great moments this season, JR was what we knew he was. One wants to play football, one wants to be a doctor.

One very simple reason: there are few, if any, Power 5 schools outside of Iowa that Rudock has a chance to start for.

His best chance of playing is waiting for CJ to get hurt behind that offensive line that wasn't good this year and lost their best pieces or wait for CJ to struggle with a group of skill guys that would, like Jake, have a hard time finding the field on another Power 5 roster outside of Iowa.

Most of what you posted is your point of view & opinions, conjecture you've made up, or completely fabricated scenarios offered without any insight or knowledge regarding the Iowa football team.

I'll take a shot at your question though: Jake should stay because he's a competitor, a team leader and an unselfish contributor to the team & his teammates. If he takes his ball and leaves, at least that eliminates a selfish team leader. Maybe that's why no one came to his defense when that ISU player crunched him with a late hit.

I dont see JR transfering either, but if he is, we will find out on the 20th. That is the first day of the spring semester....

No inside information, but I can't see him transferring either. Here are the options as I see them:

1. Stay at Iowa and have 1 more year with his friends & teammates. How many of us wouldn't love to have 1 more year of college with your buddies? I assume there is a girlfriend or two on campus which also is an incentive to stay. And while it would be frustrating or insulting to now be the backup, he should know that there is a good chance he will be called upon at some point during the year to save the day if CJ either gets hurt or plays poorly, which would make Jake the "hero" and fans would be lobbying for him to remain a starter. Or more likely, Jake actually beats out CJ again for the starting job in spring or fall practice, and all of this becomes a non-issue.

2. Transfer. Not to insult Jake, but I would imagine his only transfer options would be to lesser programs. Would you really give up your friends, teammates, chance of playing Big Ten football, etc. to play 1 year at Florida Atlantic or Western Kentucky? Plus, if plans to attend med school at Iowa, why waste a semester or year of school somewhere else?

You forgot option 3... walk away from football and concentrate on what he came here to accomplish.

I think this is the least likely possibility. Jakes a smart kid and he knows this is his last year to ever play college football. He has his whole life in front of him to be a doctor, or go on and do whatever it is he wants to do. That would be tough to simply walk away from that one last year if you ask me.

I do not think getting rid of that itch is quite that simple.
