Joshua Jackson Focused on Season, Says NFL Decision Can Wait

Given that before the season, not much was heard of JJ outside of Iowa. I don't think this one year is going to make him a first rounder.

If he runs a 4.4 forty and can turn his hips and run with guys during his individual workouts that's not going to matter.

He needs to run far far far far far away from this program as fast as possible
I think Jackson's real problem with the NFL will be the pass defense techniques the Iowa program didn't teach him. He'll really have to make up for those deficiencies with lots of athleticism which he, apparently, already has.

Money is a consideration, but it can't buy happiness, nor can you buy back your senior year of college football after making the decision to leave early. Playing with your buddies in college is definitely different than playing for a paycheck in the pros. He will get the right information and make the right decision for him, and I am sure he will be highly successful either way.

Ya money is only part of the equation, but we are talking about a huge part lol.

Josh Jackson is a genius. Wait until the brightest light is shining and then completely ball out. If he is earned his degree already he needs to ride the buzz he has created and go. He has done enough for his Iowa teammates already. No way they beat OSU without his contributions.

King and Wadley both stayed because they projected lower because of size and speed concerns. They were considered to fall 4th and 5th rounds. JJ is actually going to project to CB. He needs to run well at pro day and the combine. If he can run 4.48 or under he will be a top 5 corner. If he can run 4.45 or under he could actually be first round.

The NFL draft is a crap shoot. King was supposed to go early and CJB late. Message boards across Hawkdom have a bunch of folk who know where he'll be drafted. LOL. These same people predicted CJB in the 6th round or undrafted.
EDIT: and for those who say, "So did the gurus". That just reinforces my point.

The Wisconsin game did way more for his recognition than the Ohio State game.

I suppose it is equally important serving that he was able to have a huge game twice in a row, but I would certainly think that 3 picks on a QB of JT Barrett's caliber is far more valuable to the NFL evaluation.

He'll be competing against guys who are faster. He's a good back. I don't think he'll be here next year. But 1st round is a stretch. High second. Third round.

Thought this was interesting. CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso has Jackson as the #19 overall prospect right now.

Unrelaed to Jackson, for those who follow recruiting, there are a couple interesting names at #8 and #17 in Orlando Brown and Chukwuma Okorafor. Iowa notably finished second in the recruiting battle for both after being the first major conference school to recruit either guy. Those two were both in the '14 class, which also featured the memorable miss on Ross Pierschbacher, who has now started more than 40 games in his career at Alabama. All three of those lineman (as well as Jackson) were initially low-to-mid 3-stars with zero other P5 offers when Iowa began recruiting them. For all the flaws of the coaching staff, they still have one of the quickest eyes for talent.

(For those who will call me on it, yes, Brown and RP did blow up tremendously after their initial rankings, and both ended up as high-3/low-4 star players with lots of major offers.)

As soon as Iowa offers a kid he immediately blows up. Lots of coaches out there that watch who we offer and ride our talent evaluation coattails. If Kirk could get any kid he wanted Iowa would be OSU. Damned internet.

Or scoring the only 14 points in an entire game with two pick sixes.

Pass rushers and cover guys that is what NFL defense(s) want. NFL teams are only in their base 50% of the time. A team that doesn’t have immediate needs JJ would be a good pick in the mid to late 1st rd. A nickel guy who can eventually be the starter.

I have seen an evaluation or 2 already that say he maybe the best CB in the Ferentz era and has the speed and length desired by quite a few teams. It said that coming out of Iowa means you get a fundamentally sound player and that is a known quantity but Jackson pairs that with the speed and size to cover the fair share of possession receivers. Also they graded him as a B+ tackler and said every player out of Iowa's secondary going back to Pagel has known the importance of tackling.

One in particular said Jackson could jump to the top of the CB class if he can post a sub 4.5. It ranked him 3rd best CB with a 40 time of 4.55 behind Webster from Old Miss and Ward from OSU. Dont know where they got the 40 time from.
