Jordan: Get to Final 4 and you can have "anything you want"

It wasn't a completely embarrassing run-in, though, as the entire team was given some added incentive to keep winning in the NCAA tournament.

Jordan said that if the Tar Heels win two games in New Jersey this weekend and get back to the Final Four, he'll supply the entire team with the tough-to-find (and quite pricey) Air Jordan 11 Retro "Cool Greys," along with "anything you want."

Upon hearing that, the words "NCAA violation" might spring into your head, but it appears that wouldn't likely be the case, as the Jordan Brand — owned by, of course, Jordan — is the team's official equipment supplier.

Considering the punishment for things like selling a pair of your own pants or jersey, simply talking to Dieon Sanders (and then lying about it), its a little surprising that this is no big deal.

idk about basketball but I know for a fact the football program has limitations on what/how much Nike stuff they can give the players even....

It was a violation to introduce recruits to Demi Moore, but this is cool?

He's only giving them Jordan equipment. Which, you know, Michael Jordan happens to own. It's no different than Phil Knight supplying Oregon. If Jordan were just some guy with his own shoe store, that didn't already supply to UNC, then that would be a problem.

I used to love Jordan, but he is such an egomaniac. Quite frankly, he is jealous of the legacy that Kobe is building right now. Kobe will never be better than Jordan in the eyes of many fans, but MJ craves the attention that he no longer gets. To see "one of his own" (and one of OUR own for that matter) wearing Kobe's shoes and not his own has to make him sick. If you watch the video, he does not seem to say it in a joking manner. HB asked them to turn off the camera, but they never did. HB had a look on his face that was like, "WTF, Mike, get over yourself."

MJ is such a competitor,he can never turn it off. Now,he is competing in the business world, and still fighting it out with Kobe. When you are the greatest evah, you have an ego, just to get there. He is over the top, sure, but so was Wilt, and probably Babe Ruth.

I understand it's "legit", but it's still a competitive advantage to allow this sort of stuff to happen.

Which competitive advantage is that? The Air Jordan "Cool Grey" shoe advantage? The extra motivation advantage? The get-to-joke-around-with-Michael Jordan advantage? Come on.

The "come to NC and you can associate with and get lots of cool, free stuff from the greatest player in basketball history or go to school somewhere else" competitive advantage.

This. The same reason why Oregon has an advantage. When your athletic department is seemingly 100% bankrolled by Nike (whose owner is an UO alum), you can attract a lot of recruits. Oregon's facilities are state of the art because they have a limitless budget.

Oregon and UNC are fortunate to have boosters that just so happen to own an equipment contract with their alma mater. They have the best of both worlds and I don't have a problem with it.

Interesting how competitive Jordan is, but how lazy and poor he has been at improving NBA franchises.

Competitiveness does not necessarily equate to being a smart bb executive....no doubt about that.

MJ wanted Krause to trade for Walter Davis long after Davis had declined also.:)

MJ picked Morrison as the 3rd player in the draft....and Kwame Brown as the #1 pick....bad judge of talent.
