Not too hard to decifer that your prediction will be 7-5; 8-4, max, if believe 1 of 2 things happens:
-- GD will get the offense to put up the points it should against NwU AND Indy. Finally beating all the teams it should in one season (ISU, Minny, NwU & Indy).

-- Iowa lays it's traditional egg against either NwU or Indy but protects Kinnick against a "peer" team in Purdue.

Regardless, the NwU - Indy - Purdue games will determine whether the season is good or a 3rd consecutive disappointment.

Your initial take looks a lot like most peoples' back in April ...

i have felt 7-5 all along...my first few runs through picking the games produced records better than that. I am still going through it all before I put the final pick out there...9-3 is the peak, and it's not a crazy peak...I think 6-6 is the low.

I think 8-4 is a strong reality and even 9-3 is possible with this schedule -- given that this new jolt of energy to the staff gets us over the hump of beating the likes of the Indiana's, etc. ... 8-4 is VERY attainable ... This is a very favorable schedule ... I know, broken record, but finishing 7-5 this year is of the books. If we find a decent rotation in the dline we are going to be just fine. We will have a top oline when all said and done. Vandy will have a good year ... CJ ... I like our back 7 on defense ... I think this could be one of those teams that truly makes some noise -- when nobody expects it ...

Unfortunately, this is another year with a large roll over in starters. One of the worst biproducts of lots of green talent is it tends to result in higher than average numbers of injuries. I don't know if anyone has ever done a study but my perception is that inexperienced starters are significantly more succeptible to injury on a per play basis.

So basically, plan on a greater than average number of injuries once again. Be very happy if it doesn't happen.

I'm already disappointed and the season hasn't even begun.

The idea of only beating OOC + weaklings in the conference and ending up with a bowl win is well.....you know pretty flacid.

Back to back 7-5 years AND NOW Iowa is a "young team" - sure do miss the seasons when they had some experience in the line up...oh wait.

Sad that the program slid this far.

Anything worse than 8-4 with this schedule would just be a tremendous disappointment, but this team just doesn't have 9 win or better talent.

The defensive front 7 was atrocious last year, and the line is going to be much, much worse this year.

I can see 9-3 if the offense is very successful and the defense is adequate. If the offense struggles then it could be a very long football season. I am going to lean on the side of optimism and say the offense performs better than expected and Iowa finishes 9-3.

Not putting a prediction out there, but man it would be nice for a surprise season again (where we win more than expected).
