Jones is done at MLB ?

Gosh I read another thread on this and everyone was talking about Doyle or moving Welch in and Colbert to a starter! Jones did have some real problems being in the wrong gaps and he did get jerked early, But is the coaching staff that off base telling everyone he was the only LB that had a solid hold on the job to start the season? Maybe he just doesn't have the football aptitude to play MLB especially as that's the one to make the calls, or maybe he was just so psyched he made first game mistakes. But its hard to believe the coaches that were so high on him are going to throw the towel in after one game? Hope not

I don’t know high on him they were but I did hear people talking about moving Welch of Niemann inside if a better fit a LB was necessary or could be found.

I thought that was directed at Jones. Doesn’t matter if he can run sideline to sideline. He has to run to the right sideline. He whiffed several times.

If the coaches did not give up on Bo Bower, they are not going to give up on Amani Jones.

Jake Gervase is another great example of a player who got yanked and benched last year and is now back starting this year.

This will be a good test for Jones. Lets see how he responds to this challenge.

If KFz didn't give up on Bo Bower.... Jones should have plenty of opportunity to improve.

EDIT: LOL...Guffus, I just noticed that we had the same thought.

Sometimes pulling a guy and giving him time to reflect on his performance is the best thing to do. Personally I would not start him next game and let him sit. Then I reinsert him in the second quarter and see how he responds. He seemed timid out there, needs to play with some reckless abandon.

To be clear, I’m not saying Jones is done. I think the WIL spot is where he might best fit. Maybe Welch or Doyle at MLB is the way to go? Important decisions ahead of Week 2.

Thats my thoughts. Jones needs to be able to simplify and make plays. Thats the will in this offense. Jones at mike looked like he had no idea what was happening or what he was supposed to do. Not a good look for the qb of the D.

Let Hockaday, Welch, and Doyle battle for mike, Jones, Welch, and Colbert can compete for will.

Are there any more Niemann bros? They seem bred to be Iowa OLBs

I'm wondering if they're not expecting him to distance himself from Hockaday once he gets settled in. Hockaday seems to have a better grasp on things right now, but there's no denying Jones is the superior athlete.

Dont really know if Hockaday had many answers either. They played Hesse some at MLB too. Dont know if it was by design or something they were just looking at while AJ was in at DE.

Exactly the way I see it. When he comes tru the 'clouds' he will be much stronger. Called a learning experience...

That'd be a really short audition if he is done... Did he even play the whole first half before they yanked him? Some guys look better in practice but then when the lights come on for the game it's just too fast for them or whatever. Hockaday seemed to have done fine out there. He wasn't glaringly out of position at all as I remember. I don't know what coaches will do but I hope Jones keeps his head up I highly doubt we've seen the last of him

Years ago I had a young, female Springer Spaniel. I was very disappointed with her in that she was the most timid "hunting dog" I ever owned. I tried to teach her to hunt but she was so afraid she didn't want to go out into the woods and when she did, she would barely wander more than 1-2 feet from my feet. One day, giving it another try, we were out hunting Ruffed Grouse. By chance we walked upon an unseen Grouse and about one foot from me the Springer bumped into the Grouse and it flew off wildly to live another day. From that moment on she loved to hunt and ended up being the best hunter I ever owned. She changed from a lap dog to a born hunter in one second.

I had given up on her. The transformation was amazing.

It's one of the things that makes college football unique. There are no preseason exhibition games. And you can only simulate game speed in practice so much. When they open the curtain and the lights go up, you're either ready or you're not.
