It's funny how the words that are invented to classify groups of people can only be used for a couple decades or so before they are deemed offensive and new words have to be invented.

I get it. I don't want be Mr. PC guy... that's you. :)

But it's an extremely ignorant word used to hurt. I have family with D/S, they are offended by the word. I have friends with D/S - they are offended by the word. Only uneducated (not book or school education, but people who don't understand basic social skills) people still use that kind of language. Idiot, dumb... I dunno about you but I feel like that's softballs to me. I am actually sorry for attacking BigD and I mean it. The R word? I suppose some of you still describe homosexuals in a derogatory manor? Would you use the R word in public? Does the anonymity of a message board make it ok? I guess so, but I'd hate myself if I was being offensive or hurting someone with my words. Which is why I am sorry for calling BigD out at all.

Also - Fry made issue of my grammar and he can barely form a complete sentence on other threads around here, then calls me a name that only a bigot in today's world would use and somehow he's still doubled down on me being the bad guy. You can't make that kind of thing up.

If you haven't ever watched the "fag" episode of South park with the Harley riders, you should. It sums up the use of slang words that people find offensive pretty well. They don't even hold the same meaning anymore (or at least they have two meanings and the intended meaning is always obvious). To me, it's a pretty big stretch to think Fry's post had anything whatsoever to do with mentally handicapped people.

To answer your question, no i wouldn't use them on the internet because even tho I find it ridiculous that people can't use a little deductive reasoning to understand the meaning behind to word, I don't want to be that guy. If you're an easily offended person that over hears me talking to friends, it might not paint me in a great light.

He called me Corky? What do you think he was insinuating?

People just have to understand that everyone is wired differently. That's why I don't just throw around the words without looking over my shoulder first. But that's also why people shouldn't get so bothered by it. If someone truly sees the words so differently that they have absolutely no ill will when using them, maybe the easily offended crowd can meet halfway and understand that some people see things in a different way.

Look, I am not easily offended at all, but I am also going to call out anyone who says something derogatory towards people are mentally handicapped, race or sexual preference. I get that the words don't mean what they used to mean. I've seen that South Park episode, I tend to agree with it. If you've heard Louis CK's rant on the F word, I tend to agree with that too. That's not the case here, he blasted me for grammar, called me slow - called me a R word twice and then ended it by calling me Corky. Pretty straight forward hate speech.

Yea I forgot about that part. That was him going out of his way to offend you so you should be offended.

look, I am not even THAT offended, but I am not going to let this guy call me out for bad grammar (while he can hardly find the right spots to use apostrophe's in other threads) and then straight up go bigot on me and say "hey, this ok"... I'm gonna call him out for what he is. He gave the material - I called him on it.

I used the R word and F word like it was 2nd language growing up. I didn't know better. Luckily I grew up and I'm an adult and most of all, not an A hole so I take other peoples ideals and feelings into consideration.

I wasn't directing my post at you. It's just a topic I enjoy debating. Hate speech also has stupid meaning in today's society. If someone is being a jerk to me, it makes zero difference if he calls me an idiot or a retard. The "hate" comes from the meaning behind what he says, not the word he chooses to use. In this case, his intent warranted you getting mad, not the word he used.

As soon as you said you agreed with South park and Louis CK, I understood how offended you actually were by his use. And like I just said, my posts haven't been meant as an attack on you, I just like talking about the subject so I butted in. I can shut up now.

I get it, I think we've discussed this topic. My brother's boy has D/S - he hates the word. He fights it daily. He has organizations for kids with D/S and donates a large majority of his life to volunteering and such. I do the same. Ask someone who has a kid with D/S if they feel the word "idiot" and "retard" carry the same weight and meaning? I bet you'd feel differently. Maybe not. Either way, I want to discuss Iowa hoops here, I just wasn't gonna let this guy blast me. I feel like I said what I wanted to say.

Also - I am not anonymous on this site yo. I put all my info out there because I am a real person :) I am sorry for calling BigD dumb. Hell, I shouldn't call anyone that with what.... a whole 4 semesters of Junior College under my belt?? He has been a long time member (as have I) and I feel ashamed that I did it. I hope he accepts my apology cause it's heartfelt. Now back to Iowa. I really feel like they are already being overlooked this season. Hardly any of the projections have them in the field. Which is crazy cause LAST season most of them had them in. Goes to show that the research that most of these guys do is minuscule.

I know someone who used to say it, had a baby, and now hates it. I'm 99% sure it wouldn't change my opinion and hope I never get to 100% sure.

I accept your apology InGoodCo.

I understand the sensitivity on some of these matters. I have a son who is permernantly disabled. What happened to him is extremely rare and I wouldnt wish it upon anyone. At just six months old he had a massive stroke that cost him the use of the left side of his body. It also limits him as far a mental capacity as he is now 23 years old but has the mental capacities of a six year old. What it didn't damage was his social abilities as he can carry on a conversation with people quite well. He has touched many doctors, nurses, therapist, social workers, and friends lives.

About twelve years ago while I was living in Georgia I was contacted about a young boy who was living in Georgia who was battling cancer. Back then I was also part another forum that was part of the Press Citensen. Some local Iowa fans made arrangement for all of Iowa's football coaches to sign a football for the boy to have. The ball was sent to me and Inwas able to forward it on to the boy's physician who then gave it to the boy who was about seven years old. It really touched my heart that Kirk and his coaches would do such a thoughtful thing. Boy did my sons eyes light up when he saw that football with the coaches signatures all over it. My son is huge Hwakeys fan and often text me or calls me when ever he hears anything having to do with the Hawkeyes.

I have to be honest as I looked at that football and thought how much my son would have loved to had that ball. Though my son has been through a terrible thing I knew what that young boy with cancer was going through was much worse. I was more than happy to be a small part of the whole process. I think Kirk and his family are great people. Following the football and basketball teams acts as a great escape and a way to keep my mind off of my son's challenges. So I am greatful for that.

I guess I just got got up in the emotion of things after I read we were being picked to finish fourth in our own division. I over reacted to it. I guess I was looking forward with high expectations for this upcoming season and it was so disappointing to read that. I realize that it just someone's opinion and often people are wrong. It just rubbed me the wrong way and I posted at a time when I was frustrated. I hope it didn't offend anyone especially Kirk or his family.

We're good D - sorry, I over reacted to you as well. We can all agree on here GO HAWKS. You're sons story is incredible and I wish you and him nothing but the best. I should be nicer to people and this whole thread reminded me that. I think I've become desensitized to some on here because of some of the trolling.

I have noticed you get a little more snarky lately.
