Jok

It is ok to get in a running game with them as long as the hawks identify their shooters setting up on the arc. The hawk half court offense needs to look for dunks, and high percentage layups and short shoots to draw fouls and make baskets.

I am not worried about jok in the man to man as long as he is told to just stick on his man.

Lets not play over help on defense

From what I understand, there aren't too many half court sets with this team...they simply create off the dribble and shoot or create off the dribble, pass and shoot. There possessions are typically less than 15 seconds. I'm not sure how this game isn't played at an extremely fast pace. Fran is going to think he can run with this team too and wear them down, since we are deeper. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The difference is that if we can make them work on offense to get a shot off and keep them off the three line, we should be in good shape. When we don't score in transition, our half court offense should be a huge advantage vs when they can't score in transition. How do you keep a team from scoring in transition? Crash the offensive glass and get second chance points. Another huge advantage Iowa. Woodbury and Olesani better show up today as they have a huge size advantage on the offensive glass. If they look like they did against Penn State...pull them and put in Uhl and go quicker.

In order to run, you need to get rebounds; and we should be able to do that. They have six guys that average 20 minutes a game or more. The next four players for them average 18, 13, 12 and 11 minutes per game. That's 10 guys that average over 10 minutes a game. Don't know how you think we are deeper. Now quality depth, maybe we have the edge.

It would be nice if Iowa could get production from their guards, however this game is winnable with the guards not making shots. If they win today then they will need some point production from their guards Jok and/or Ogs will need to do something positive. That being said the whole team needs to be solid defensively.

The production we need from our guards today is on defense. If our guards play good defense and also don't commit unforced turnovers we should be fine. That means we are getting the shots we want with our forwards and they are NOT getting the shots they want.

So how is Davidson going to stop 6'9" 6'9" 6'11"" 7'1"?

No, the whole team needs to play good defense as, if I've heard correctly, every player with significant minutes for Davidson can shoot. Furthermore, I don't think Iowa is going to have troubles getting their shots. It's just a matter of making them. I'm also unclear as to how the guards playing good defense and not turning the ball over will help our forwards get the shots they want. Unless you mean good defense can help the whole team with transition points?

I saw that. It was the first thing that worried me. I'm hoping that our bigs hit their shots down low as I think that will be the key to the game. Also, I'm not certain, but I think the packline defense is kind of like a zone and is susceptible to 3pt shooting teams. Hopefully, that is why it was so close.

Just for the record..... Jok played great... Both ends of the floor. I was only worried about the defensive end before the game started. But they all showed up playing some pretty gritty tough man to man D. Did Davidson ever make two three pointers in a row? I don't think so and if they did they sure never scored 3 in a row. and because they were never able to get in a rhythm it allowed us to take advantage of them. We were able to run with them which was awesome. Can't pick that game apart at all really. It was a thing of beauty

I personally think the week off will be a good thing for Pete, he had seemed to hit a wall (either physically, mentally, or both) over the last few games. Let's hope some rest has him fresh and ready to make a push this weekend.

On defense, his biggest issue at times is being beat off the dribble. It doesn't seem that is Davidson's forte. I think his length (along with Uthoff) and ability to close out could give the Davidson guards trouble.

:)
