Jok

Anyone else nervous about him? He hasn't been playing too well and I feel like Davidson after having scouted us will know that and will pick on him over and over at the defensive end. His man to man D just isn't very good. I think we'll be in zone more but I'm sure we'll play some man too. I really hope I'm wrong and he steps up. I don't even care if he doesn't shoot great or that much. I just want him to D up and not have mental lapses out there. And not have sloppy turnovers. There's been a lot of that so far in the tourny too.

I'm nervous about him as well. I'm also nervous about Uthoff, who seemed to clank wayyyy too many shots off the rim against Penn State last week. On the flip side, I am very confident in White and Gabe. This is a game we should win...but you never know with this team.

No I'm not worried. Go look at his line from last year's NCAA...and he hadn't even been playing.
Sorta but we are a long ways away from that. At that time he was just giving Marble and MG a rest. He wasn't starting or having any expectations laid on him. Now he has and the last couple weeks he's just not played very well.... The good thing I think is if he is shaky Fran will have a quick hook and put JO in. I don't think he'll let Jok play through a 3 min stretch of bad play like earlier in the year. And he shouldn't. Letting this team go on a 12-0 run or worse could be all it takes to bury us....

Alford got to shoot over a 5'9" guy yesterday...similar situation for every player on our team today.

We we can only hope we shoot similarly as Alford. The rap on Iowa entering March Madness is not a very good shooting team and hard to argue that..

My hope today is TONS and TONS of points in the paint today by Iowa! Dominate the POST.. Iowa IMO shouldn't have to shoot lots of 3's today to win.

I think he will be fine. Our length on the perimeter and size inside will overwhelm them on defense and especially on the boards.

What concerns me, is when they hit some 3's and they will hit them, that we don't feel that we must then start bombing away as well. That would be a disaster.

I agree...not suggesting we launch 3s. I'm just pointing out how easy it should be to score...if we play smart.

Well, Peter's got a little over 5 hours to get it figured out if he hasn't by now....I believe Peter will be just fine, get a good sweat going and hit a few shots, money......

I personally think the week off will be a good thing for Pete, he had seemed to hit a wall (either physically, mentally, or both) over the last few games. Let's hope some rest has him fresh and ready to make a push this weekend.

On defense, his biggest issue at times is being beat off the dribble. It doesn't seem that is Davidson's forte. I think his length (along with Uthoff) and ability to close out could give the Davidson guards trouble.

ehhhh, this game will be won or lost on the defensive end. If Davidson's backcourt is allowed to get where they need to go on their halfcourt sets it is not going to matter if Jok is hitting shots. At some point the floodgates will open and this mentally fragile Iowa team will crumble.

Post is kind of contradicting. Maybe I'm reading into it wrong but early on you say "win or lose" and at the end its talk of floodgates opening and a mentally fragile Iowa team crumbling. Doesn't sound "win or lose" to me, but seems like you've already established an outcome.

From what I understand, there aren't too many half court sets with this team...they simply create off the dribble and shoot or create off the dribble, pass and shoot. There possessions are typically less than 15 seconds. I'm not sure how this game isn't played at an extremely fast pace. Fran is going to think he can run with this team too and wear them down, since we are deeper. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The difference is that if we can make them work on offense to get a shot off and keep them off the three line, we should be in good shape. When we don't score in transition, our half court offense should be a huge advantage vs when they can't score in transition. How do you keep a team from scoring in transition? Crash the offensive glass and get second chance points. Another huge advantage Iowa. Woodbury and Olesani better show up today as they have a huge size advantage on the offensive glass. If they look like they did against Penn State...pull them and put in Uhl and go quicker.

Not really, probably could have worded it different. It meant to be if A happened then B will be the result.

Agreed........It feels like Iowa should win this with their size, but who knows this team is so flakey.

It would be nice if Iowa could get production from their guards, however this game is winnable with the guards not making shots. If they win today then they will need some point production from their guards Jok and/or Ogs will need to do something positive. That being said the whole team needs to be solid defensively.
