Jok Returns - Starting 5?

That middle lineup would get destroyed on the boards. Baer and Uhl combined weigh like 300 pounds.
Good point. I'm confident in my picks for the final starting lineup, but Wagner, Cook, or Jones will probably start over Baer to start the season. I just think Fran will start the season with experience in the post.

1. Williams
2. Bohannon/Moss
3. Jok
4. Uhl/Jones/Baer
5. Wagner

This would be the setup for me. Whoever I trust to compete defensively would be the starters at the 2 and 4.

No Cook? He's the best recruit we've had in a long time, I think he's a lock to start

When you're the second best player on the team that has the nation's second best player, you get a lot of attention. A situation like that increases the odds that you are over rated. We already know Wagner was under rated and he does have a year on Cook, so it's very possible Wagner will be a better player than Cook next year. It's also very possible that Cook isn't over rated and will be the better player. Either prediction is understandable at this point.

Cook is not overrated, he's going to be a good one. I don't know that Wagner was really underrated either, with his recruiting I wasn't surprised to see him come in and average 2 pts/2 rebounds a game as a freshman.

I like Baer much better off the bench as a plug-n-play "energy guy". He is pretty versatile as far as rebounding, shooting, and hustling. If a starter gets into foul trouble, or the starters look lethargic, Baer can come in and change the tune immediately.

Just my 2 cents. While we haven't seen Cook yet, my current starting 5 looks like:

Jok
Williams
Moss or Jones
Uhl
Cook or Wagner

I don't think Iowa will be awesome next year, but they should be fun to watch

Dang... tough to predict.

Is Cook going to be ready as a Fresh?
Will Dale Jones be healthy?
Heard good things about Moss last year, is he ready?
Where does Uhl fit? 4 or 5?

Williams
Jok
Moss
Cook
Uhl

Off Bench in order:
Baer
Jones
Wagner
Bohannon

I struggled the most trying to figure out where the bigs fit. I think Wagner and Jones are the bigs that need to play together. Jones ability to spread the floor with his outside shooting ability can help offset Wagners inability to shoot. I also ended up going with Uhl at the starting 5 spot because I had concerns starting a 6'7" offensively challenged Wagner. I love Wagner's energy and hustle but I'm not sure he's the answer for a starting 5 in the Big 10.

Other than that, I would say Baer/Moss is a toss up for the starting spot. Deep down I hope Moss is better than Baer because I know what Baer can bring and if Moss is better than that, it's only better for the team. I also like Baer's energy coming off the bench. I think the crowd feeds off his energy as does the team so he can be that spark plug.

Pre-conference play:
Williams
Jok
Baer
Wagner
Uhl

Start of the B1G:
Williams
Jok
Moss
Cook
Uhl (if he learns to pass the ball)

Moss & Cook will learn the college game quickly, with Moss just needing to step on the court a few times. Cook looks to be all that and a bag of chips. Should be a monster for us eventually...

There is plenty of length here for rebounding and interior play. More height than we had this year by several inches. Plus length/wingspan. That's a net gain of over a foot. Probably closer to two feet.

Interesting point. Uhl/Cook and Jones/Wagner are good frontline pairings. One shooter and one guy to hit the offensive boards. Can interchange Uhl & Jones. I do think Cook will play/ guard the 5. He's 6'8 - 240 and appears to have a decent wingspan.

Fran said the team will be young, but not young and skinny. All the front line players are thickly built or have been college weight lifting for a couple of years. Williams will have had a year with the weights. Baer said he wanted to put ten or fifteen pounds on before this year starts. Moss will have a year of college weight lifting. I think they will be pretty athletic and strong. Kriener and Pemsl probably could use a year on the weights, but Tyler Cook is already big and strong. It will be interesting to see how another year of the weights will effect Uhl. I don't see a team that is going to be pushed around next year. they should be a pretty good rebounding team. Hopefully, Jones will be 100%. Its easy to imagine that they could be better than last years team both offensively and defensively when the conference season comes around. A lot of people are looking forward to seeing the new guys and Moss in the PTL.

That's pretty hard to imagine that in my opinion. We were a top 10 team for a lot of the season and finished in the top 25, I don't see that happening next year

I could see us finishing strong to climb into the top 25 at the end of the year. The conference is weaker and we lost a lot of close games last year. Playing a weaker schedule and winning half of the close games could give us a better record and better end of year ranking. For that to happen, Moss, Williams, and Cook will all have to be as good as we hope.

I am hoping that this comes to fruition and that the three you have mentioned can play above their youth and inexperience. I am expecting Cook to be a step up over Woody offensively right from the begining but it may take him awhile to be as good defensively. Never thought I would have said that about Adam but he worked hard and learned how to move his feet and get into position and to quit reaching and getting those dumb fouls.

If Cook could grow two more inches and put on about twenty-five pounds of weight lifting mass he could be a monster down low and very difficult to stop. How nice would that be? It could be a lot of fun watching Moss, Cook, and supporting cast all develope and grow together the next four years.

I honestly expect we are going to having some growing pains this year as players grow and learn but I expect this group to very fun to watch as they do improve and get better as the season goes.

Usually when a team loses 60% of it's scoring and doesn't bring in a great recruiting class or have a sitout transfer in the wings they aren't going to get better than they were the year before

I just saw that ESPN lists Cook at 6'9". Perhaps you're right, maybe he can play the 5. Even so... I'm not sure I wouldn't keep my lineup the same and just switch Uhl to the 4 and Cook to the 5.

My concern is the point guard play. We saw very little of Williams last year - the end of year play showed some possibilities, but he's not a sure thing, and Bohannon is untested. If they play up tempo, ball movement games, it may not matter as much, but if they get into set plays, it will matter. Next year could be a Kobe-type year for Jok - scores 25 a game on 10-27 shooting. Ever hopeful, though.

If it gets to the point where Jok is just jackin up shots........next year will be brutal.

Most of the time they won't. But after a year where the team lost almost every close game and went on a big losing streak, it's possible. This team can be "worse" and still have a better season. If last year's team would have finished closer to its ceiling, this year's team would definitely have a less successful season.

Brutal as in boring or brutal as in bad? Teams have good years all the time where one guy does most of the shooting. It's not ideal but you can make it work sometimes.
