My condolences to his family and Cyclone nation. I had several conversations with him when he would hang around (his) Johnny Orr's Sports Bar and Grill, after he had retired. Super nice guy and I used to look forward to seeing him when I lived in Ames. Truly a class act as far as I'm concerned.

I've never met anyone who didn't like Johnny Orr if I had I am sure I wouldn't want to meet them twice. A legend has passed for sure

My condolences go out to Cyclone fans.. Johnny Orr was a terrific coach.

I really liked his teams with Barry Stevens and Jeff Grayer. They were fun to watch when not playing the Hawks.....

Johnny was a good man. As and Iowan I always felt like he was really just one of us. Loved how he could give almost anyone a hard time (looking at you Vital).

My wife is an ISU grad and found her crying looking at her phone. He was coach while she was in school. When they open the gates for him, he should hear, "heeeeeerrrrreeesss Johnny!!!!!

He had a winning record at all three school where he was the head coach, but he was way more successful at Michigan than at UMass or ISU. A great guy, funny man and respected coach. He'll be missed.

Money. UM didn't pay him crap so he bolted when ISU offered much more. $50k *******.
This really dampens my spirits as we head into the new year. Have never heard a bad word about this great person as a man or as a coach.
RIP Mr. Orr.
