walked on at Iowa and has been working out with team this summer. 6-3" 277 lbs from Jefferson, IA. Placed 7th at HWT in HS wrestling.

He'll be a SR, Spent 4 yrs at Drake & played 3 with RS as FR. Started 22 games, played in 30.

For Drake had 55 tackles (45 solo) 8.5 sacks 21 TFL so productive at that level. I assuming he wanted to see if he could play D1 at the B1G level and saw an opportunity not far away.

Interesting prospect. Hope he can help.

That is very interesting! I bet he gets some playing time early since experience will be in short supply - hope it works out for him (& the Hawks!).

BTW, you posted this under Basketball.

I am also guessing he graduated from Drake in his four years and is coming to Iowa to be in one of the graduate programs and wanted to try and play another year of football at the D1 level.

He kinda has the Tebow cadence goin.

Good for him! Gotta be a hell of a thrill to go from Drake to Iowa for a year. Maybe they can throw him in there to take up some space for a few plays a game. He has decent size. I always cheer for the Rudy types.

Rudy was 5 foot nothing and a hundred and nothing. John appears to be a little bigger than that. :D

Could be this year's tom nardo-who was a walk on, never played and was pretty productive. I would take that in a second.

Multiple sources are reporting that Sawhill is injured and will not continue his football career with the Hawkeyes.

That's too bad. I hadn't heard much about him during camp though and since this was his senior year, it was basically sink or swim. Too bad he didn't get a full on chance to fight for it though.
