John Lickliter and available schollies

My guess is Hawkeye Nation would go into a Chernobyl-style meltdown if John goes on scholarship next year. Before it does, though, a question: were (are) Ferentz's kids on scholarship? (I truly do not know the answer.)

If they are, in your mind what would be the difference between that and Lick putting his son on scholarship? Scholarship-level talent vs. walk-on?

Jon will not end up on sccholarship.

Coach Ferentz' sons were/are on scholarship but were legitimate D-1 players.

While I respect what Jon has done stepping into a very difficult situation this year, I find it hard to believe either he or his dad ever expected it to happen. I think Jon is there to learn the coaching profession.

I agree. Todd will either save that scholly for the 2011 class, or he could consider adding a PG this year in Kaylon Williams. I've seen him play a few times at Kirkwood, and he's got some intriguing skills. Bit of a streaky shooter, but has the athleticism to be a very effective penetrator.

I think that Kaylon Williams would be a good fit for the Hawkeyes. We could most certainly use him and we need a PG. One, to push Payne. Two, to add more quality minutes and three to hopefully beat out Payne for the starting PG position!!!

Kaylon Williams has a good A/T ratio and averages around 2 steals a game over the last 2 years. He was on the Missouri Valley All-Freshman Team last season. His defense is worth mentioning...

His D was a little off the two times I saw him, or at least it didn't stand out compared to the other guys. But he's certainly got the lateral quickness to match up with almost anyone, so I'm not trying to knock his defense. I don't know if he'd beat out Cully or not, but I'd feel very good about him if he did, because I feel very good about Cully at the point. And the A/TO ratio wouldn't necessarily translate easily to the Big Ten. The three point shooting is promising however. And he may bring a good A/TO to the team as well, but his stats at Kirkwood aren't indicative that he will, as the competition level isn't as high. But I do think he would fit nicely, if nothing else giving us some quality depth so that we can play Cully 20-25 minutes and Williams the other 15-20. I don't think there would be much dropoff either way.

Seriously... John Lickliter will not be on scholarship. There is a zero percent chance of that. If there was such thing as a negative percent chance, this would be it.

Ferentz's kids actually had/have the talent to be good at the B10 level. John while trying to help the team does not. John probably came on the team knowing he would never play. Thanks to Tucker he did.

You have seen Williams play at Kirkwood or Evansville?

He's the son of a coach, not only that, he is the son of THE coach. Have you ever been around those people?
