John Kenny moving to linebacker

Disagree. You don't need to be a freak of an athlete to be good at a position. You can learn that position to be good at that position. You can teach a position, you can't teach tough.

I disagree. This is not circa 1980's. We play a lot more man coverage under Phil and with today's offenses spreading defenses out that leaves your backers out in space. David Johnson says hello on his way to 200 yards receiving most of which came on Alston and Spearman who I would consider a freak athlete.

We will find out if Kenny can cover pretty fast. I do hope so as we need players at this position.

Alston look like Tarzan, play like Jane. Spearman ran like his feet weighed 200 lbs a piece. Neither were good in coverage Or tracking someone down. If you ran right at them, sure, probably make a tackle. Otherwise, meh, not so muches.

Kenny's credentials at LB are far far far superior to the credentials of any of the 3 who are penciled in as starters right now. We need Kenny to step up and become a starter by mid season this year. It would be unacceptable to have multiple walk-on types start at LB at a Big 10 school for multiple years. The question will be whether Kenny has the instincts needed to play the position.

I'm going to give John Kenny some props, here.
I've heard he has great Football instincts, toughness and decent speed.

That's A LOT more than the player that left the Iowa program, after last season
& is apparently now at Illinois state

GO HAWKS

He's a tweener... Not quite good enough to be a starting anything... He did a solid job at filling in last yr at FB. But I don't see him cracking the lineup at LB or FB if the others are healthy. So special teams is only way he'll see the field otherwise.

Well now I wouldn't say that. It might be hard to make the 2 deeps at LB this year. Travis Perry and Cole Fisher are looking good. However next year he has a great shot.

The LBs that are ahead of him on the 1 line are Bower, Jewell and Hesse and all of them are the same age or younger then Kenny... Therefor injuries will more then likely be the only way he gets on the field.... There are LBs that were recruited behind him as well pretty highly thought of in Hockaday Jinning Garbutt etc... My guess is Kenny won't start at LB for Iowa but play lots of special teams.
