I'm not sold that Harbaugh is a homerun hire.
He was obviously successful at Stanford but I think it's a lot easier to sell a young kid on Cali weather, and women, the ocean and the beach than it is to explain how winning games 20 years ago before the kids were even alive is going to affect them personally.
So maybe this is more of a reflection on the Michigan job than it is Harbuagh himself. I also think the B1G national perspective is a bigger problem than anyone realizes.
Maybe it's just a Wisconsin problem but seeing 2 coaches leave a successful program with what looks to be a bright future based on the division they play in should raise a lot of questions.
Now maybe I'm stretching a Wisconsin problem to a conference problem but look at the hires being made...
I had to Google to find out who the new Nebraska head coach was and granted Chryst is a Wisconsin guy but he's a head coach with a .500 record.

LOL. Comparing Harbaugh to Schembechler is ********. He's going to flame out there just like he did with the 49ers. His fire might burn hot for a year or two but then it's over. Just like in San Francisco.
another boneheaded move by Michigan if true.
I thought this was the inevitable outcome all along.... Deace had been calling it from the git go. It just makes too much sense for him to end up there. Why would you stay in the NFL for the same money maybe less money then what Michigan is offering to take on a rebuild job for teams that are stinking it up now? He'd have no job security in the NFL he'll have to put up with other GMs and owners he might not/probably won't get along with. The college game just suites him better. He can be as hands on a boss as he wants recruit what kids he wants on a platform where the AD will be his whipping boy (much like Barta is to Ferentz) I'd have a tough time thinking that after he sits down and factors everything that he won't take the Michigan job.
I agree that the college game suits him better and the money and control at Michigan is much more than at SF at this point. But Harbaugh is a fierce competitor. He wants to compete & win at the highest level. He came very close to winning one Super Bowl and has been very close to reaching two others. The ultimate prize for a coach is to win the Super Bowl and I would imagine he wants to do that. Had he won it a few years ago against Baltimore, I think he says, "enough is enough" with the NFL and heads to Michigan.
I hope he goes to Michigan. It would be good for the B1G. However, Iowa's recent success against Michigan would probably come to a screeching halt.
