Jim Delaney to retire in 2020

Maybe Bob Bowlsby ?

Edit: I guess Bowlsby is already 67 years old, so never mind.

I will do whatever I can to get Barta that job.

I have no contacts or know anyone, but I will camp out at the offices to get him hired if necessary.

Sounds like NW AD is the early front-runner....

But they never put somebody or some school in charge of the search committee if that guy is a candidate for the job ...

well except for Dick Cheney, but there is always an exception.

Good news. I understand from a financial standpoint he did a lot of good things for the Big 10. However, it was obvious that he was trying to get back to his roots in North Carolina with the expansion to the east. Maybe he was hoping to absorb more of the ACC. I think adding Rutgers and Maryland was a mistake and ruined the midwestern character and tradition of the Big 10.

This is a fair point.

However you can also make an argument that he had the foresight way back in the early 1990s that college football was transitioning from a regional sport to a national sport. He added eastern power to the mix and tried to get Notre Dame as well. And finally added 2 more eastern schools and a midwest school.

He did everything he could to make the Big 10 (midwest conference) into the B1G (national conference).

Yes, and I understand that it was probably the smart thing to do.....financially. It doesn't mean that I like it. A better fit may have been to try a little harder to break Texas and Oklahoma off from the Big 12 AND taken Mizzou, even with reservations. Instead, he blew off Mizzou, took Nebraska and gave up on Texas, OU and also ND. At least that is the way I remember the events. I won't attest to the accuracy of my recall, maybe I made it up. Just think how much better watching Iowa play Texas, OU, Mizzou and Notre Dame would be than Rutgers and Maryland.

And Barry Alvarez is older than Bowlsby, will be 73 in December.

They would probably want someone in their forties or fifties. If you're thinking Iowa connections how about Matt Whitaker after Trump fires him.

Barta is only 55, and was recently selected to the CF playoff committee. They should pick him.

Seriously, take Barta. Please take Barta.

As much as I want Barta our the door, I couldn’t even envision the dumpster fire he would make if he was in charge of negotiating television contracts. At least his damage is localized to Iowa.
