Jerry Palm: Clones have work to do

Jerry Palm was interviewed by Ken Miller this afternoon. The topic, of course, was whether Iowa State had earned their spot in the tournament. Much to the chagrin of Ken Miller and his loud mouth partner, Palm said that Iowa State has NO quality wins on the road, and therefore a "so-so" resume. He said they are definitely "on the bubble" unless they get a quality road win. The conclusion reached was that a win at Kansas State, at Missouri or in the Big 12 tournament was a must.

I'm no expert on NCAA seeding, but I thought that the discussion was quite interesting, to say the least.

Palm currently has Iowa State in a "play in" game (meaning they are one of the final 4 teams in the tournament).

Palm usually does a very good job of predicting the right teams, but where he is usually off is his seeding. He also does his picks as if the season ended today. If the season ended today, no way would Iowa State be in a play in game. They are safely in as of today. They have more impressive wins than a lot of teams on the bubble. I'm not sure why Palm would think otherwise except for that, again, his seeding is usually pretty bad.

He even said that he didn't think if they beat Baylor at home and loss all their other games, they'd be out. i think where clone friends are getting ahead of themselves is their schedule is so backloaded and all easy games are behind them it's looking better then they really are. They have a chance to prove how real they are the next few games though.

Palm is clearly over emphasizing road wins. He has ISU a #13 and BYU a #11. Look at BYU's resume and tell me where they are deserving ahead of ISU. I don't care if Iowa State makes the tourney or not, but I don't want to see any team ripped off either. Palm is so off here it's not even funny.

By comparison, Joe Lunardi has Iowa State a #9 seed.

Hmm...I beginning to wonder if Fred Hoiberg beat up Jerry Palm and took his lunch money back in the day...anyone know where Jerry's from and how old he is?

Will Byu has total of 8 road victories compared to ISU 3. Only one top 100 plus a top 100 neutral victoriy compared to ISU none. Byu is 6-5 against top 100 compared to ISU 3-6. Very comparable teams I don't think anybody would be complaining if BYU was projected in the play in game.

Palm has Northwestern safely in and they are 6-9 in the conference?

Iowa State in play in game at 10-5 in conference?

Reason? Road wins. Hmmmm.....Northwesterns only road win is at Illinois. Iowa state has 3 in conference.

Dudes a joke and he has not been the same since he went to CBS

Umm..yeah Northwestern plays in the Big Ten. As I've been telling you Clowns all year long, 6 B10 wins is equal to about 10 Big 12 wins. The B10 is that much tougher.

I was analyzing BYU vs. the top 50, if you go to 100, certainly they fared better. Against the top 50 their record is 1-4, with that win coming at home over Gonzaga. Iowa State is 2-4, so not much better I guess, but their win against Kansas is as good a win as any bubble team is gonna have. I think if they win 1 of their last 3 they should be in.

The 10-5 vs 6-9 doesn't matter it's the whole season. Northwestern SOS is #6 ISU is #63. Northwesterns has 5 top 100 wins and 9 of 11 of it's losses are against top 50 teams(not to mention the other 2 were in the 70's). I mean I would take ISU over NW but the resume are quite comparable.

No, no its not. It's slightly better.

I will give northwestern credit though, as they have played a tough conference schedule, unlike Iowa

I agree with what your saying but palm says Iowa States out because they don't have a big road win. Ok, if that's the criteria, fine....but then why is Northwestern in with worse road performances

My RPI has oregon 49 so they'd be 2-4 also with a win against 55 and ISU also had a win in the 50's so you could almost say they are both 3-4. My point is it's very comparable

with northwestern's schedule, maybe. with Iowa's schedule, no way.

and I guess we'll find out just how tough the big ten is come the tournament. I think we'll find out that it's overrated outside of tOSU and MSU

Personally I don't think NW should be in, and would have ISU. But looking at roat games NW has wins at 72 and 187 compared to ISU 3 at 116, 159, 227. Also NW has neutral court wins against 31 62 104, isu has neutral court of 166 170. Looking at all that I'd give the edge to NW over ISU as far as away from home criteria. ISU got home win against KU and NW has one against MSU. They are very comparable teams and when you look at the whole thing the 10-5 vs 6-9 doesn't matter, just most people get caught up at looking at that.
