Jay Scheel Video

i don't know anything about union/laporte - but that is a nice high school football field and track.

nice one handed catch by the guy falling down.

scheel has pretty long, fluid strides - looks to stride longer than a 6'1" athlete. not sure why i say that, just how it looks. has a nice hesitation move shown often in the video.

if this kid was from out-of-state, and not small town IA would he be getting more hype? looks pretty good.

That was fun and uplifting for a change. Sure did make a lot of people miss. I wonder how fast he really is.

I played football for Benton growing up and we always played Union as part of our non-conference schedule. We beat them pretty easily, but for being a class smaller than us at the time (not sure what they are now) they were always pretty competitive. We also played Mt. Vernon when they had Matt Kroul on their team... I found out first hand that dude was a monster and at that time he was 6'2 or 6'3 and about 245 (played LB and fullback).

Union does have some nice facilities. They always had pretty sweet uniforms as well. When I played them they had the Miami U as their logo. I think they must have some pretty generous donors.

Scheel looks like he has athleticism that would allow him to dominate at any high school level. That play where he jumps over a kid and runs for a TD is impressive. I hope he ends up being the next Iowa boy who blossoms into a star in the black and gold.

I'm wonder if he wants to play qb at the next level? I know he's been listed as coming in as a wr. But dang does anyone else see some Brad Banks in him? He's prolly faster then he was and is just a tough nosed athlete. Clearly at that level he's a man amongst boys but he can obviously throw on the run. I'm just in love with the idea of having a duel threat qb again. Having another kid that's basically Vandenberg part 2 with no experience doesn't get my heart racing in a good way. I'm willing to give Ruddock (who I think is going to start to begin with anyway 3 games in who knows who's starting then) a chance but he'll have to show me alot more then what Vandenberg gave last yr. (I'm not one to blame Vberg for all that happened either. The playcalling was atrocious too but when a qb knows it 3rd and 8 you don't throw a 3 yard out on the sideline as your primary receiver weather it's the play called or not)

Jay Scheel said that Iowa offered him a scholarship as a QB, he is coming in and getting a shot at QB first. May of the recruiting sites just list Jay Scheel as a WR because that is what most services believe he has to best shot at playing in college.

He's a good athlete and not to take anything away from him, but he wasn't even the best dual threat QB in Iowa Class 2A last year. He may get his shot at QB, but he'll probably wind up at another position. I hope he turns out great for Iowa and wish him well though. The better QB last year was Ertz from Mediapolis and even he wasn't getting too much of a look from Iowa as a QB, but as a WR, therefore, is going to KSU as a QB, too bad he tore up his knee in the quarterfinals and Union lost in the Quarterfinals or it would have set up an epic matchup at the UNI-Dome.

Ertz was a monster in high school (45 to 2 TD/INT ratio last year, along with 1000+ yards and 14 TDs rushing), but after Iowa got a commitment from Shimonek, we all knew Ertz wasn't getting an offer as a QB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ertz be a college starter at QB or WR.

Read an article on Ertz yesterday, already recovered from torn ACL and meniscus and down at KSU since graduating. Probably red-shirt though with Waters from Iowa Western there, too.
