Bruce Feldman us reporting on Twitter that Jay Norvell is out as Co-OC at Oklahoma. Per @BruceFeldmanXFB

Would be a better option than GD.

Should say available, sorry for the auto correct.

I heard that on footballscoop also. I'm not sure, though, that Jay Norvell called the plays. JN and Josh Heipple were CO- OC's and I believe JH called the plays. I've not kept track of JN but I wonder if he's a good recruiter? That, is what Iowa needs more than anything. Better recruiting.

What is the deal with him? After spending some time in the coaching ranks no head coach opportunities and let go by OU?

I'm pretty sure Norvell has never been a play-caller. He was always co-OC at OU and I think even when he was at Nebraska and UCLA somone else called the plays. If we're going to go with someone that's never made a play-call at any level before, we might just as well go with Brian.

Not taking a shot at Jay Norvell, because I know nothing about his coaching ability, but an Iowa background should be about 10th on the list of qualities of a coaching candidate. It's nice, but completely unnecessary.

Why do we want another fired Big 12 coach? Are we hoping for Wally the Wizard when Rhodes fires him too?

That's the first thing that crossed my mind.. We hired an OC who was fired by TX.. Now we want to hire one that was fired by OK? Rinse & repeat?

But as has been debated, is the OC himself really the problem, or is it the head man?

Frankly, I think we just need fresh blood. All the way to the top.

Until Kirk is ready to open his mind and change his philosophy on everything, it doesn't matter who the OC or DC is.

I agree, it's mostly Kirk, but even KOK ran a better offense than GD, so I have to believe the OC has at least a little bit of say into the offense.

Heupel is out as well. I'd take that package deal over GDGD any day.

Until Richard Ferentz decides to turn the keys over we are just wasting our time. Peyton Manning could be a qb and we'd still run Mark Wiesman into a 10 man front on 3rd and 4.
