Jane Meyer reassigned

That's not that much money for someone in their late 40s/50s to make. Regardless, Barta should have canned her for the multiple missed deadlines on the FB complex project. It was a level of mismanagement beyond the critique of our FB staff

i know the dollar has somewhat been devalued - that being said, $165k is still a very large salary for an individual. it most certainly places that person in the 1% category - in iowa. that salary is a 91%er nationally.

We pay our football coach $4 million a year. 164k is peanuts to our athletic department. Now imagine what we would have to pay those people if they were actually good at their jobs.

Or something. There wasn't human invitro from frozen man-jam when Urban was born. Think of the early French in this country.

My guess is that Meyer has more oversight of the womens' programs than Barta. That's why she's been reassigned. And if true, then why would Barta be accused of gender discrimination when she has more hands-on responsibilities over women coaches than him (so to speak).

There's a lot of questions for Meyer and her relationships with the women coaches that need to be answered. The first question is not is there gender bias at the UofI.

The second is, who cares about women sports? The only passing interest is WBB and that's for a second or two in March.
Gender discrimination is being asked because Barta fired those other women not Meyer. I'm sure there's more to the story but some of those fired coaches were just as successful or more so than their male counterparts who were retained. I don't know the whole story, nobody in the public does, but there has to be a little merit to it to even try. Barta says Meyer was reassigned because he was told to do it. The fact they did it on Friday evening means they didn't want the publicity of it. I think this is far from over.

I'm sure Barta fired them. I'm pretty sure he did so on the advice of his senior assistant super associate AD gal who is the long-time sex partner of the field hockey coach who is now complaining about gender discrimination. I remember Iowa getting credit for being one of the first programs to not have two athletic departments based on gender. Now this?

I agree with you completely. This isn't over. I certainly didn't say it was.

But all the questions need to be asked. Including the non-PC questions about lesbian relationship or relationships between the super assistant AD and the coaches beneath her purview.

Barta shouldn't be assumed to be guilty just because a disgruntled former employee's lawyer says there is gender bias.

There is a lot to this story, and I'm fairly certain that we don't have all the information. Of the women's coaches who were let go, there are 2 that stand out. Obviously Griesbaum, and there is ongoing litigation there. The University apparently felt some concern about the treatment of athletes. The softball coach also resigned/retired a few years back (Blevins) who was highly successful. I have no idea what the real story was there.

As far as the other coaches let go, please. The volleyball program under Dingman was horrific. Was that due to "lack of support" by the administration? No idea. Dahm the baseball coach was let go after a similar stretch of lack of success.

The reason Meyer was reassigned was due to the relationship between her and Griesbaum. KCRG story linked here. If this thing actually goes to trial, it will receive quite the coverage as a lot of details will be filled in (on both sides). I would guess they arrive at some sort of settlement, but just speculation.

I'm glad they re-assigned her. Actually, I think stuff like this could actually be
harmful to recruiting. Now, I know some will think this is being 'too' intellectually
honest, but there, it's now out there.
