Jamie Dixon to TCU??

wow, that's an odd team to go to.....I've always liked Jamie, good luck to him, and no to Fran moving (at times this year I would've helped him pack)....;)

I guess Dixon played there for four years so it makes sense from that standpoint. Seems like career suicide to me. But maybe he can get guys to go there.

If Jamie can get guys there, then there's hope for Fran.....Fran is just missing a couple of pieces (imo)

A few pieces short of a full puzzle? It's hard to say at this point what the near future holds for this team. We lose a lot of height with Woody and Uthoff leaving. The person who plays center now may not get the rebounds but may bring more to the offensive side of the court. You don't lose the amount of experience at the guard position in Sapp and Gesell and not feel some sort of impact a least until the new guards get some experience. Expect huge growing pains as this team goes from known commodities to unknown commodities which in a way will bring fan interest. That can be good and bad. Bad if we look bad and fans don't want to waste their money and time following a team on a down year. Lucky for me I got down syndrome from watching every game under Lickliter so I should be good to go no matter what.

Yes, a point guard who can get into the lane and make things happen, and maybe a guy like Woodbury but more of an offensive threat.

I wonder if the AD encouraged him to look around at some other opportunities. I have no inside information. But I always pick against Pitt when filling out my brackets.

Dixon is paid very well at Pitt and is under contract for awhile. So if I were the AD I would be thrilled to send him somewhere else. Not that he is terrible, but like you said, a first round NCAA team typically.

So we agree that Pitt probably isn't demanding a huge buyout to let him go.

Yeah, if Dixon goes to TCU, I'd say it feels a lot like when Tubby Smith left UK to take the Minny job.. Just staying ahead of the posse? Doesn't seem like Dixon was able to sustain what they had a few years ago, so wonder if he's feeling some heat.

Also reminds me a bit of Alford taking the UNM job..

I also thought of Alford right away.

Maybe Fort Worth is the only place Dixon could find someone to do something with that hairdo.

Reports coming out that it's happening. It does make the Big 12 maybe a little better?

It does feel like that. Pitt has been a perennial early exit team in the NCAA tournament. As Windsor pointed out JD and the AD probably mutually agreed that it is time to move on.

Honestly, with Fran's well-publicized temper, a letter of reprimand from the conference, his team's slide into oblivion this year and two years ago, do you honestly think anyone is knocking on his door at the moment?

Jamie Dixion to Pitt is a VERY odd move. TCU is dog crap. If it was illinois I could understand, built in recruiting base and all, but TCU........why?

TCU is his alma mater, I believe and there is a crap load of hoops talent in DFW area and Texas in general. Fifteen years (I think) at Pitt, it makes sense. Perhaps he was also feeling the heat from PSU recruiting. What's his name is bringing back-to-back highly ranked recruiting classes.

Let's face it what fan base does not want the 'next level'? After making the NCAA's year after year fans begin to feel like that accomplishment is marginal like making the CBI. It's a real challenge for programs to keep it 'fresh' even when they have success. I hope PITT tanks for a few years so they see how the 'next level' feels.

Dixon's name was a rumor when Iowa hired Fran but he wanted big bucks to come (3 million per). So there's been something brewing with Dixon for a while. That was not something Barta could justify while paying out Lick and with no garuantees Dixon could rebuild a program.
