James Morris B1G Defensive POTW

Good week for the BTN to feature Morris on ''The Journey''.....along with Minny's Haggeman, and some other player. Perfect timing for the Morris feature.

Hageman...whatever. Our O line kicked that guys butt up and down the field up in Gophland.

I believe our trip linebackers have the most active tackles of any FBS trio of linebackers. Morris definitely loos quicker this year. Hitches is laying wood or people. Definitely why we are successful only rushing 4.

Desmond King should be a close second. He came up huge on third down stops and also recovered the fumble in the 4th...pretty big game changing moment

Also had a critical pass breakup on a big hit in OT. I've been thoroughly impressed with King. He's our next great cornerback; Lowery is supremely talented, but he's too inconsistent to really be in the conversation of best Ferentz-era corners. King has shown remarkable consistency since his second or third game as a starter. Solid in coverage and absolutely does not miss tackles. Easily our best defensive back this year.

King will get a huge test this week. Abaderras(sp) is a stud. Front 4 getting some pressure in passing downs will be very important. D ends will need to keep*the edge*against the fly/jet sweep as well.

Cmon Hawks...play well...all 4 qtrs !!

Safeties will have a tough job this week. Support run but not get sucked up on play action. Front 7 needs to be able to slow down the run.

Gonna be a damn tough challenge this week. A great test to see where we are on the O and D.

Go Hawks

I think King, by design and virtue of his "youth", gets more safety help than Lowery. Sort of like Prater, early in Hyde's career, being the guy often out on the island.

Our problem, IMO, is the safeties and their vulnerability to play-actions/fakes/etc. OSUs first TD pass was a first-rate lesson in how a PA fake is SUPPOSED to work.

I agree that the safetys simply have to stay at home this week or Abby will beat us deep...now, the only difference is the Kinnick wind...which is forecast to once again be 17-20mph from the NW. Against that wind, Stave will not be able to go deep...so that might help Iowa when Wisky is going against the wind anyway. That might allow the safetys to come up and help with the run in those two quarters. Wind will be a big factor again this week....like most games this year...no wonder Iowa is #2 in wind energy production, behind only Texas.

Wonder where all the geniuses are who were consistently bashing JM at from the very beginning of the season? Are LB's are top shelf...I would put them up against any other LB corps in the conference.
