Jameis Winston...

Says you, good grief. Hes a national champ and just won the heisman.

Dont hurt yerself trying to connect the dots. Its a story. Get over it

I know why they're covering it the way they are. I just don't think it should be. This isn't any different than Johnny Football or Tebow. They're taking a relatively minor story and making it a blockbuster drama when it doesn't need to be. I'm not saying it shouldn't be covered at all. But it doesn't need to be THE story of the day/week.

You don't think the conflux of the expansion of NCAA food allowances, shoplifting of food, a Heisman trophy winner, allegations of sexual assault, allegations of less-than-zealous prosecution of said alleged sexual assault, a mere civil citation for an alleged repeat shoplifter, lax law enforcement related to an important athlete, and the oddity of the crime (crab legs, really?) makes this a headline? This is not something that happens everyday.

Methinks you are playing this one too cool, Tork.

Jameis was put on notice during the "alleged" sexual assault, and this (as minor as some people are making this sound) is another failure on this young man.....It's absolute insanity that athlete's like him can continue to hide behind the fact that they are above the law.....Ya, ya, ya, I know he'll pay a fine, serve community service, but if you or I did something like this.....as Bill Polian said yesterday, "Come on man, crab legs?" This kid may have won the Heisman, but he's an absolute loser in my book, and we will hear more about him in yet another incident down the road....College is nothing more than sex, drugs, and rock and roll, for kids like these....I seriously doubt he has intentions on getting a degree....this is merely a stopping point before the NFL or the MLB....ridiculous...

Like I said, the rape case is irrelevant if he didn't do it. If tomorrow it were proven that he didn't do it, would he need to mature any less than he does today? No, because the rape case would have been nothing more than a false accusation and he didn't do anything wrong.

Personally, I think he very likely did do it. But until he's charged and/or found guilty, there's really not much more to say about it from the media's perspective. So I look at the rest of his run-ins, and none of them are worth front page, big-*** headlines. Obviously, DJK is nowhere near Winston's level as a player, but his getting busted while living with a drug dealer barely made any waves on ESPN, and he was a first team All-B1G WR. Pierre Pierce made a similar impact on ESPN's coverage, and that was every bit as serious as Winston's alleged crime.

As for the athletes starving/crab legs bit, that's what makes this more amusing than anything else from a national perspective, IMO.

The bottom line is that Winston is ESPN's latest muse in college football, just like Manziel and Tebow before him. He drives ratings/traffic, which isn't what should be the primary factor in determining the significance of a story.

the thing is, that it is easy to conclude that this kid very likely received a lot of cash; maybe up front, maybe ongoing and here he is shoplifting. You think it's the first time he ever shop lifted?

His future is bright but he'll flame out fast.

This is completely on the NCAA and FSU. They failed to specify that the free food only applied to that offered to athletes in the cafeteria and not supermarkets as well. if only there was a union available to these athletes to help them get these matters cleaned up.

Sure, it's easy to conclude that when it's people like us talking about our personal opinions. But when you're a news source reporting on a story, you should have a lot more than just assumptions behind your word.

Well call steve levy and espn and tell em yer concerns

To bad he wasn't to found to Rape anybody dipstick.

Didn't say he that was "found to rape anybody", double dipstick (might want to work on that reading comprehension). But he was accused of it, just as he's been accused of shoplifting. Space here doesn't allow for a rehash of that entire case... but it still smells bad if you do the research. Maybe they'll decide not to charge him with shoplifting too.

I'm sure he's a boy scout and completely innocent of any wrong doing in both cases.

Now busted for shoplifting crab legs from Publix market. Well, look at the bright side... it's a step down from rape.

Dumba**

Well, Floridians--especially those of politically liberal "bent"--will spin this EASILY. You see, Publix hasn't joined the "Fair Food Coalition", which allegedly ensures extra wages for farm workers by companies willingly paying an extra penny-per-pound for tomatoes (it really doesn't, but what's a harmless lie, anyway?). SO Publix "deserved" to get ripped off, and voila, Jameis Winston is now a Robin Hood-level hero to the sea of morons that populate our great Sunshine State.

Seriously? You mean like Dan Rather? Or do you mean the current media, those veritable truth-hawks?

I've read that he totally "forgot" to pay for the $32 worth of food he had when he walked out of the store. I mean really....who hasn't done that?

Well, be fair now. College kids go to the store to pick up some crab legs all the time, it's like getting a slurpee at 7-eleven.

Wow, another athlete with an over-inflated sense of entitlement behaving badly? Honestly, at this point, I don't even have the energy to summon up faux disgust.
