Jake Heaps vs Jake Rudock

Heaps was considered by some the best QB recruit in the country in '10 and right now starts for BYU. Rudock on the other hand is a middlin' 3 star recruit Each seems to be similar in terms of size, style, and abilities. However in terms of the college offers and scouts evaluations they couldn't be more different. Anybody know why this might be? Is Rudock getting penalized because of the talent around him or the fact he's not a 3 or 4 year starter?

St. Thomas Aquinas is regularly one of the best teams in the country. They can essentially troll that part of Florida and get all the talent they want. Rudock seems to be undervalued at this point, but he has what is likely the best receiver tandem around, so that can be expected. I would expect him to play more like a 4 star at Iowa. And hopefully not the Jake Christensen version.

Rudock was 15-20 for 333yds and 4 touchdowns tonite against a heck of a good team from Georgia. He may not have a rocket arm, but man does this kid throw a nice ball. Goes thru progressions and hit his great recivers in stride almost everytime. Throws the deep ball fantastic, which is handy when you have 2 absolute burners on the edges. And carries a 4.4 GPA. I'm stoked for this kid to be wearing the black n gold!!!

Bob Brudzinski was up from Florida for the Miami-Ohio State game. His sons played football at Thomas Aquinas. One went to UMASS and the other went to Toledo on football scholarships.

Bob has been to two of Aquinas' games and watched the game in Dallas on TV. Bob thinks the kid is a big time talent. He likes the kid a lot and thinks the kid made an excellent choice in going to Iowa.

Not bad coming from a 12 year NFL veteran.

Being in Seattle the past 8 years, here's my story on Heaps - he played in a 4-5 WR offense in which they threw pretty much non-stop all game and ran an offense in which they seldom huddled - think Mike Leach-type spread. Heaps was on something similar to the Todd Marinovich football-training regimen, which his parents took some heat for. Also, Heaps played w/ some of the most talented players in WA state, namely Kasen Williams, a 5* athlete and WR Gino Simone, amongst others. Heaps played for Skyline HS, which is basically a very successful, affluent suburban Seattle school, so recognize he definitely wasn't lacking anything in resources and exposure, and when you've won as they have recently, players will get noticed. I also heard interviews w/ Heaps, and I don't think he'd have fit in at a place like IA - if you've ever watched BYU play and noticed some of their player's behaviors, you understand my point, and IMO Heaps fits in at BYU...and no, that's not a compliment.

I am just curious how much different a "4-star" would play over a "3-star". It must be a huge step up huh?. You do realize its media, and and the fact that he is an Iowa commit that have him at 3 stars, right? I have watched Jake several times and he may be one of the top 5 QB's in the country without questions. When will this star thing go away? He has destroyed two of the top schools in the country already this year in addition to destroying some incredible HS teams in S. Florida. He could care less about stars, he has the scholly he wants. He proves himself day in and day out on the field, just like most Hawkeye players. He will end up as one of the all time great Iowa QB's if he stays healthy. Take it to the bank.

Not trying to be a smart *** but I'm guessing you guys care more about his star rating and lack of national respect than he does. Frankly I don't understand why there are so many threads on Hawkeye boards about underappreciated Iowa recruits. Iowa doesn't recruit the type of players that get caught up in that sort of thing. Who really cares? Obviously Ferentz doesn't and it's worked out extremely well for him.

Rudock is IMO one of the best QB's in the country. It doesn't matter how much talent he has around him really, he still has to throw a catchable ball. It's not like he's a do everything dual threat QB that beats teams with his rushing and passing. He's a pocket passer that does an excellent job at getting play-makers the ball. He's a perfect fit for Iowa's offense and he has grades that prove he's more than just a football player. Sounds like your typical Ferentz recruit to me.

JR looked great last night. He will need his redshirt year to bulk up. He was listed at 6' 3", 185# during the broadcast. When I first watched him warming up, Kyle McCann popped in mind looking at his arms.

I am sure he will be fine after JR meets Doyle. :) QB does not require a huge body build, but you do need to be able to take the B10 pounding.
