Jack Nunge Senior Night

Nunge went for 30 points, 7 block shots and 7 boards in his senior night final game. Castle is ranked 5th in Indiana and are a senior laden team. The news paper said he is 6'11" and had scored 30 or more several time this year. He is averaging 27.5 per 32 minutes. He is also averaging 13.3 boards a game. Theysay he is very stong handling the ball and is a great 3 point shooter. He will remind us of Uthoff I'm sure.

Yeah, he has a Uthoff skill set for sure...but also more aggressive. I think he is the best of the frosh group next year. It's going to be tough for Uhl to keep his minutes up as he is just so limited now on offense. He has zero confidence and when he is out there, the defense doesn't have to respect anything other than him driving and even then, it's typically out of control

I wonder if that 6'11" is accurate. I though he was listed a 6'8"-6"10".
Would be pretty awesome to throw 3 guys that are 6'10 plus with skills at the BIG in Nunge, Garza and Kriener!

Other then Uhl who do you thinks mins will be affected by the newcomers? My guess is Wagner. Kriener didn't play a ton this year as it is and I have a feeling coaches would like to play him more next yr...

Wagner and Uhl are going to have a hard time finding minutes unless they step up their game. I could see both bouncing after this year. Problem is both are getting old to move on. Hope we don't see multiple guys clogging up scholarships riding the pine.

It's going to be hard for a true freshman to take minutes from Wagner. Wagner is physical and has really improved his offensive game from where it was. Let's face it, he's not an offensive juggernaut. Another year and I think he's going to be a beast on the offensive glass though. He's got some nice moves around the basket, he's just got to finish better. He's a hard worker, and I expect him to get much better offensively. He's needs a pull up jumper from 15 feet. You need guys like this to be a defensive stopper and rebound...and just be physical. He's good in the zone too.

I agree with them both finding PT hard to come by. Not sure either will leave although it wouldn't be a surprise. Hard to know. If there's one thing Fran has shown this year it's he'll play the best players. No favoring of upper classmen. You have to not only earn your spot but continue to throughout the year

Here is the thing though, in college BB with 13 scholarships you are always going to have scholarship guys that ride the bench.

If Uhl or Wagner end up having some minutes cut that's not neccesarily a bad thing as long as Fran can manage their expectations. Uhl and Wagner were the 6th and 8th man on a team that was at one point ranked #3 in the country. Flash forward two seasons later and we are saying they might be 11/12 in our rotation. That is in no way a bad thing.

Edit: I wouldn't really lump Wagner with Uhl here as I think Wagner still brings a lot to the table and I believe he will be in the rotation next year.

I agree 100%

Like I said I do agree. With the climate in college basketball. With guys not seeing the playing time they want, I see up to four players transferring out this year. I like all of the guys on this team with the exception of Uhl. Alot of these guys have got a taste of playing time. It doesn't take much to hoop the fence.

You are more optimistic than I am on Wagners offensive game improving. He's a bit of a tweener at 6'7 215 he's a PF. He is good at making hustle plays. But he'll never have a great jumper it don't seem like. Nunge is taller/longer and has an outside game... I could be wrong but I think that would endear him to lots of PT

It's actually a pretty interesting comparison. Both guys are extremely limited offensively but are good on defense and versatile. I'll take Ahmad because he's stronger and better at getting the offensive boards. Plus on offense he seems to understand there is a reason he's always open on the perimeter unlike Uhl. Dom is actually a better defensive rebounder it appears. It is hard to justify needing both of these guys in the rotation, especially with the ability of our other frontcourt players.

Wagner: 494 min, 57 ORB (103 Rebounds), 42 As, 26 TOs, 25 Stl, 14 Blk

Uhl: 438 min, 29 ORB (100 Rebounds), 34 As, 30 TOs, 5 Stl, 9 Blk

I'd have to agree with this. I like Wagner, I think he can give us a few "hustle" minutes off the bench and a little spark, but it's really tough for me to see him developing much of an offensive game and at 6'7 only so much he can do on the defensive block. Not a knock on him, I hope for the best, just not seeing it. As one poster mentioned, it is a good thing for our program if he and Uhl are 9-12 on our depth chart. That means we've upgraded talent tremendously. It's hard not to feel bad as we get attached to these guys who are trying, but at the same time its D1 Level basketball and they have to expect the competition and loss of playing time if they get beat out.

There will always be games where there is foul trouble. While other teams are putting in guys with no talent or no experience, we will be putting in a freak athlete with tons of experience.

Of the guys rumored to transfer out Christan Williams is the only one I hope sticks it out. The others I think you can absorb the losses fairly easily.

I think Williams stays. He was in the doghouse for a while, but by the end of the year, he was consistently getting quality minutes, and seeing the court during crunch time more than Moss. He has a role on this team. So does Wags. If you mixed him and Kreiner up, you'd have a good player. But if you can put either in as the situation demands, they will both see some minutes. Uhl and Dailey though, I just don't see where they fit in going forward. There's no role that Uhl fits that someone else doesn't do better.

I'm not sure people realize it, but Wagner made considerable offensive progress this year over last. He gets to the rim now or to the basket off the dribble which is something he couldn't do before. He just hasn't finished consistently. That will come with another summer and work against bigger guys. He's long and athletic and can defend those small forwards/big guards that create mismatches...and he's physical. If he makes the same improvement this coming year...he's going to get 12-15 minutes a game. I'd love to see him get some confidence with the outside shot.

Christian Williams isn't going anywhere. His handles have improved and he's getting it now. It's just that Bohannan has just played incredible over the past 4 or so games...or longer. Williams should be the starting point guard next year...and Jordan the 2. Williams can create all kinds of mismatches...and issues for opposing teams...and he can rebound. He's a key cog next year IMO.

I like Williams and have been happy with his play lately but I'm not sure why he would be The starting PG next year.

You say he would create mismatches but if him and JBo were both on the court wouldn't the other team just put their bigger guard on Williams? I thought Williams would be able to post some this year but he hasn't shown any ability to finish around the hoop.

I think Williams will continue in that 10-20 minute range as the backup PG, and may also get some minutes at wing. If he doesn't like that role I could see him transferring. I certainly hope he doesn't.
