Jack Campbell AP B1G Defensive Player of Year

Hard to compare guys from a decade or more ago. Different game now. Pat Angerer had a long career in the NFL and was a good one. But, hard not to pick Jack as the best of the KF era.

It will be interesting to see where he gets drafted. Like RB and Center, LB is not a premium position.

LB is premium for elite guys who can stuff the run and cover the slot. Jack is not quite as good in man coverage as Greenway was, but Greenway was so far ahead of his time it ain't funny. That Minnesota game was one of the best performances by an Iowa LB in history. Campbell went straight up against a grown ass man at tailback and won and oh by the way he had an INT as well.

Outside LBs in a 3-4 scheme (Von Miller) are coveted. But, inside LBs like Jack are just not. It is pretty darn rare for an inside LB to be drafted high in the draft and they rarely get the big bank. Teams pay big money for guys who can sack the QB and cover WRs. They fill in everywhere else, for the most part.

On offense, NFL pays for WRs, LTs, and, of course, QBs. Those are the elite positions in the draft.

Oh yeah, that's correct. You have to project as a pass rusher to get money if you are in the front 7 (now 6?) on the defensive side of the ball. I forgot about how fungible the NFL has made everyone who isn't a stellar pass rusher or cover corner on defense.

Unless you are an "edge rusher." Do you think teams could choose Campbell with that role in mind? Seems conceivable, but of course I am just an idiot, so who knows...
