The number of posts absolving the coaching staff by saying we aren't very good or poor talent level are providing some much needed comic relief. When did they lose responsibility for recruiting, developing and motivating their players? No matter why we suck it IS the coaches responsibility by definition. Just like where all of you work who manage staffs. For 3.8M,we get to expect something other than a loyal banquet circuit attendee don't we?

Do you guys know anything about football? We have a young team. They are undersized because they are young and havnt been doyleized. Hence why we are getting pushed around. We will be back to our winning ways soon and you guys will be spewing about how great we are again.... We have talent, lots of it, they are just young. We just don't reload like you wish. When are you gonna learn...

I don't buy this "blame the players" argument either. If they're not any good, why did the coaches bring them in? It starts and ends at the top.

Yes we did, only 1 of which with meaningful playing time over their career. We also have had little consistency on that same line due to injuries.

actually it doesn't all start and stop at the top
again the players play the game. you cancoach them and inspire them all you can but on that field the players have to perform. even great players stumble.

MSU beat us three years ago (2008) which would coincide with your 2nd "year before that". So I'm guessing they weren't saying it that year.
Furthermore, they probably didn't say after every loss in Kinnick because some games you lose even when you have more talent.
Unfortunately, yesterday we lost and we have less talent. I don't think there's any argument which football team has more talent and speed right now.
If we beat Michigan State yesterday, and continued the streak in Kinnick, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Michigan State fans wouldn't be saying Iowa has more talent.
Thank you for making my point, but you said it had nothing to do with the coaches. So you are saying the coaches are ok with wasting a down to run into the middle of the line which netted us 20 yards???
Isn't it the coaches responsibility to try and run plays that will work or try a different player (much like bringing in a relief pitcher)?? You can definitely use run plays to keep a team "honest" that might have a chance to work!

I never said it had nothing to do with the coaches. There's room for improvement there as well. But not like most people are saying.

I agree with original OP. We just dont have the players this year. We lack size, speed, and depth on defensive line and lb's haven't performed as we need them. Coaches have some reponsibility as well. Not our year, but i am not going to say that our players aren't playing hard and our coaches arent trying to win. I dont feel the need to attach our poor season to anyone personally not giving it everything they have.
