It's Time To Give Brian His Shot

We all know it's coming. It's been the plan all along. Greg Davis was obviously hired as a placeholder. His passing scheme, player recruiting & development, and coaching choice (Kennedy) have been absolute disasters. Meanwhile our Run Game Coordinator produced two 1,000 yard backs. And our Offensive Line Coach developed a group that in the eyes of one objective group was deemed to be the nation's best. Weather we like it or not, KF isn't going anywhere for at least the next 3 to 4 years. So now is the time to jettison Davis (and Kennedy) and promote Brian to OC. He is the one person on this planet that KF might actually grant some creative latitude. Any other up and coming creative minded offensive coach would be nuts to take the job anyway. If Brian succeeds, then great! If he struggles, then in a few years it will be time to clean the whole house out.

I agree 100%. Cant be worse than Davis has been the last 5 years. Were lucky we have had some good defense and a lot of cupcakes the past 5 years. With the stale offense we put on the field every week were lucky were not Purdue.

Yes I agree since he's NOT going to dump Davis for anyone other than his son for sure. I'm baffled by the delusion in Kirk's statements about our game plan was solid. 222 of total offense and 55 yds passing....thats your game plan. You must think we are total stooges to believe you and GD have anything figured out.

I agree he can't be worse than Davis but I'm not sure he will be much better. I'd rather get someone from outside the program that isn't a dinosaur

That's what Iowa is shooting for? Someone who can't be worse than GD? Iowa needs to bring someone in with new ideas to run this offense. BF is just fine running the Oline. You don't just hand someone an OC job in the Big 10 who has never run an offense or called a play in their life.

God no.. What the hell has he done to deserve it? This entire staff needs to go, and get all new blood in there. Definitely not another Ferentz name anywhere near the football program.

I'm in favor of a change at the offensive coordinator position and I think the only way a change gets made is Brian taking over because I don't think Kirk hiring from the outside is a realistic possibility.

So what better timing than now??

Brian's OL won an award as best line in the country and as offensive run coordinator he had two 1,000 yard rushers for the first time in Iowa history. I'm not sure his resume will ever be better in terms of going from a position coach to an OC with no OC experience.

In terms of Davis, his offense is coming off one of the worst bowl performances in history but he can still go out with his head held high and opt for retirement. He won the National Championship with Texas and he's coming off back to back years of a Rose Bowl and January bowl. At 65, he's been coaching college football for nearly 40 years and has a million dollar salary so I think it would be fairly easy to look back and reflect on his accomplishments and career overall as very successful.

As long as Kirk is still the head coach you're going to get the same thing you're getting now. Up the gut twice, 5 yard out route on 3rd and 12, punt, rinse, repeat.

Once we get down by 20+ points and our QB is in a neck brace and leg splint, then we throw in a couple hail mary jump ball INTs to seal the deal. I don't see the downside here, guys. As long as our kids play hard, show a lot of heart, and we're proud of our seniors, I don't see a whole lot stopping the Hawks from pounding Alabama into submission next year.

I am ready for this as well. I think Brian has his dad's ear more than anyone to make changes. I'd love for Brian to take it and tell his dad to stay the H away for the offense.
If we can't get solid recruits then we're hosed even if we had Nick Saban. Look at what we had this year for receivers. One above average WR goes down with a foot injury and all the sudden there are zero options to throw the ball. You have nothing in college football if you don't have depth.

Definitely need a change, have nothing to lose at this point. I'm ok giving Brian a shot. The biggest issue is that our offensive coaches have to recruit better also though, not just play call. We harp on the WR position a lot, with good reason, but we also need to realize we have not had a QB take a meaningful snap in the NFL since when...Vlasic? The QB position has been average at best too. Watching USCs Freshman QB last night and what he did was incredible.

With the New England Patriot connections we have through our coaches staff, can we not raid their playbook or get ideas on how to use TEs and smaller WRs?

I don't really want BF as OC. I don't think he's ready. But, for no other reason, let's call kfootball's bluff and have bf as OC. we will then know where the conservative offensive philosophy comes from. So, that is also why bf won't become the OC this offseason.

I'd take anyone from any other staff as oc. Morgan is the only coach I have trust in. Unless we go outside and get a coach to challenge Kirk nothing will change. We've had several coaching changes from Kirk and if anything has happened, we've become more predictable. The administration and boosters need to demand we don't hire another kiss ass yes man.

Promoting Brian makes sense, plus it then opens up the O-Line job for Steven who is graduating and probably needs a job.

Also, if we could hire a defensive coach who could teach our badass LB's and Safety's how to make an open field tackle the Hawks will be all set for 2017.
