It's time to ease Phil Parker down the road

Iowa's defense is terrible, again. Iowa won last year because the offense scored more than the defense allowed.
The defense is tired at the end of games? Maybe that's because the defense can't stop anyone before, at least, 3 first downs. Get off the field, for once, defense. Get rid of Phil Parker.

This is going to be a long season for Iowa.

Phil's defensive philosophy is very similar to Norm's. Sacrilegious as this may sound, I don't think Norm's philosophy would cut it any more than I'm sure Phil's doesn't.

Did someone say Parker? What you don't like the holes in my web....err defense?

PP has added a few wrinkles but it is basically the same D Iowa has been running the last 18 years. Guys just played for Norm with PP I really don't have an answer.

Norm's defense's stopped the run. Even in the down years under Norm, his run D was at least solid. They did give up yards through the air but they made teams mostly one dimensional and they had to earn every point the scored.

He also did a good job adjusting in games. 2008 & 2009 PSU come to mind. They moved the ball at will in the first quarters of both games, the Iowa shut the door. To compare him to the garbage we've seen in 2016 is an insult to his memory.

Totally agree. Norm's hawks might give up some scores and yardage early in games but then they would usually shut them down. Norm's weakness was not blitzing enough on 3rd and long and then giving up too many first down pass completions.

This was a source of a lot of frustration for me during his time at DC. It was hard to argue with his results, particularly the run D numbers and overall scoring D numbers but that 3rd down defense was to conservative for my taste.

Norm didn't have many spread offenses to deal with. He and Phil's defenses usually clogged up the middle except for this year. Can't defend the pass. Can't rush their QB. Can't stop the run up the middle. Can't defend the edges or the slot....

Get a new DC.
