Would you cheer if you heard that behind the scenes Barta was talking to Stoops?? And how would Stoops do if Kirk "retired" and he took the job before the season started??

No chance bob comes to Iowa, however I think mark stoops could. He’s done a hell of a job at Kentucky and might be looking for a job where he isn’t in the basketball teams shadow and doesn’t have to play Florida and Georgia and a west crossover every year to win a title.

Any and all Ath Directors have their somewhat short lists of coaches to call if an opening comes up. But this is premature as KF has not gone anywhere and will most likely not get ushered out at Iowa.

I bet Stoops does miss the exhilaration of big time college ball. I bet a part of him would love to prove the point of getting close or or winning a Big 10 championship to stamp a final validation on his coaching career.

It is a real mess because it is a boiling pot and the heat keeps getting hotter with no way to turn it off.

Are we hearing anything, anything from upper levels of Univ of Iowa admin? I havent seen anything from them or the regents.

This is speculative, you've never seen speculation on this website? Strange. As far as being too early? Maybe. I guess we'll know more when this thread gets duplicated and turns into a 5 page debate approximately 48 hours from now.

Unrelated, but a special shout out to C.B.S. aka the President of the local chapter of Stalkers Are Us. You missed one of my threads. That's just lazy and you should be ashamed.

Steve Sipple, who is a complete hack job fan boy Husker thinks this is it for Kirk, he thinks Bob or Norvell would be likely. I personally don't think KF is getting fired, but I do think this is likely his last or close to last season here.... and no chance Brian's getting the gig now, not without years away from the program and success elsewhere....so it's probably time to start discussing who's next.

We had a bet on this Brian thing, and I believe there were lots of terms and conditions in the paperwork dealing with "ifs and buts."

I'll have to look but I don't think there was a "Firing or Resignation Due to Racism Scandal Clause." Gonna have to have the lawyers figure this one out.

Oh and I'm suggesting a $50M/year offer to Bob Stoops as a starting point and whatever else he wants from there on up.

Right? I remember sorta, what side of it was I on? I bet I was on the side that BF was NOT for certain going to be the next coach cause I have never thought it was a done deal even way before this.

You were. I said he was going to be. There was some sort of time frame that dealt with the point at which KF left but this situation makes things like Game of Thrones-level complex.

sipple is a hack, but I could buy this column. Sign me up.

Riddle me this, how did Barta survive the athletic department losing the court case a few years back? If he can survive that I don't see why everyone can't survive this?

That's a good question. A reminder that Hawkeye sports is a religion more than an entertainment venue . . . and everyone here (including me) is a member of that cult . . . my bad, religion.

About 10 years ago when I was living in Colorado one of my neighbors was also from Iowa. His son had gone to Iowa at the same time Bob Stoops was playing and was friends with him. I asked this guy if he thought Bob Stoops would ever consider the Iowa job? He didn't hesitate in saying there was no way.

Now that was a long time ago and Stoops was still coaching, etc. But I seriously doubt Stoops would consider getting back into a situation like this, if there were an opening.

What about Coach O? Nick? Dabo?

great question. It’s very simple, AD jobs at major schools are all about $$. As long as money in is more than money out, you are golden.

He survived because he followed the direction of legal council, who got it wrong. You better learn how things work before you establish your conclusions. If Barta had been responsible for the results of that lawsuit, U of I President would have fired him in a heartbeat. President H. came out of the private sector with no University experience. Did you even know that?

I like the Mark Stoops idea.
