I have read so many comments about talent or lack of talent, poor shooting, not finishing, need this, need that, a great point guard is what is needed, but what makes a great point guard?

LEADER we are missing a floor general! Every great team has that rally guy and Iowa has not had one for some time. The last guy you could argue was May but really it was Gatens since then it’s been missing.

I don’t care how many stars a recruit has I just hope Fran can find a leader for this team. Someone needs to step into this spot light in soon or you will continue to see more of what you saw last year and last night.

Aaron White is a solid leader on the court....I get it, he is not a floor general, but Mike Gesell has plenty of experience. Gatens was a good leader, but not a pg.

But, the best floor generals pgs are often highly rated...like Ulis, or Ennis for Cuse last year, or Felix/Taylor last nite.

For some reason, fans think that Iowa can routinely beat top 150 recruits on the other side with non-rated guys....sorry, but top rated players are usually better.

It is about the recruiting drop-off after the best class of the Fran era ( 2012, Woody, Mike), with two classes of (Jok, Dickerson) ( Ellingson, Uhl) of non-top 150 recruits. These two classes are going to haunt us for several years, I fear. Then next years group, ( 11th in the Big Ten) might help us some, but is no lock to improve our skill level.

I shudder to think of this team even next year without Whitey....who will score?

I hope the problem isn't the team taking on the coaches personality. I wonder what percentage Fran shot from the point and free throw line when he was a player. Fran doesn't appear to be a nervous type of person. Gesell and Clemmons looked nervous against Texas.

I can see personality-wise how a coach can end up with a team emulating him....but shooting? Shooting is shooting, and each player is unique.

Gatens wasn't a "leader." He was a good player. Just like White and Marble are/were good players. We need more good players. Top 150 recruits are more likely to be good players. We need more Top 150 recruits.

Gessell might be a great leader. Clemmons too. But they are not All Big-10 players currently. And probably won't ever be.

Yes, Woody and Mike were top 100. Jok was not. Honestly, I think Woody is worthy of his ranking, but 7'1'' guys take longer. Mike was a bit overrated, it appears.

Our best players are usually top 100 guys...Gatens, Bru, Horner, Haluska, etc. Devyn is about the only all league guy from Iowa who was not highly rated. ...along with Aaron White, who is our best player.

I just do not think we have talent to match up with a Texas or most top 25 teams....not the coach, not the x's and o's, but the jimmys and the joes.

well we have another one tonight to see if we can beat a top 25 team. At this point Iowa needs to finish in the top 25 to get those top recruits until then Frans facing an uphill battle.

Just my opinion, but I think that may have been because they were longer and appeared more athletic at every position on the floor. Not a shot at us, but that was a very good and very athletic team we were up against.
