It's now 100% clear this offens is all Greg Davis

The biggest criticism of O'Keefe was the simplicity of his offense, but I think that was necessitated by limited practices. O'Keefe's offenses were far better at executing because we had far fewer just absolute mental mistakes due to the simplicity and repetition forced in practice (now sure, a lot of times that execution would wind up being moving the ball 18 yards before punting, especially when we were light on talent). I think Davis has made the passing game too difficult for college kids to grasp. Not gonna lie, I didn't even bother watching the Clowns game because I was out that day and deleted it from my DVR, but at the Ball State game he had dudes jetting wide open down the field all day. I think what may be going on is the QB and WR have their own reads and the starting QB has no confidence that his receivers are going to be where he expects them to be because guys simply aren't on the same page. Sorry, but with this offense, I think O'Keefe would have run up 42+ on ISU because I think we've got plenty of talent, but Davis has overcomplicated things and doesn't fundamentally grasp how to coach non-five star QBs who don't spend their summers getting better at elite QB camps paid for by some shady NFL agent.

And while a heavy MW dose is not ideal, it would better than the "hybrid" sh!tshow of an offense we see now. This offense is worse than 2012 so far, and that's a joke, a bad one.

We have the WR bodies/skillset (a whole squad of them) we've always wanted, and we can't(due to zero running game) or won't(too risk averse) throw to them

GD needs to go, if he doesn't, KF and GD need to go.

I can handle boring/power/conservative offense.....I CAN'T handle this mishmash hybrid crap.

So. Dammn. Mad.
Don't you get it? If Davis goes, KF is even more influential in Iowa's offense. We'd be praying for KOK.

Why would Davis scheme all these long pass plays and recruit for speed if he wasn't going to use it? I'm almost positive Rudock isn't Davis' choice at QB.

O'Keefe's offense seemed to have a passing game that was 85% in front of them. This horizontal scheme that Davis likes is a complete nightmare.

That said, I think a HUGE portion of the blame needs to fall on Jake for not finding the receivers down field. He is the one who audibles to those stupid run plays that don't go anywhere. What I'm saying is that it is his decision making at the line of scrimmage and after the ball has snapped that has limited Iowa this season. Without a threatening down field passing game, it is hard to get the running game rolling.

I used to get angry with O'Keefe for going for the home run (and not getting it) when it was only 3rd and 1. I couldn't figure out why we didn't just play for the first down. Man at this point, I would die to have those days back. At least he tried to air it out.

Ferentz is the Dictator making all of the decisions and setting the strategy. Ferentz wants complete control and "yes-men" around him. He doesn't hire assistants that are ambitious or "up and comers", he wants guys who will simply do what they're told. Look how many of Fry's assistants went on to be successful head coaches, and compare that to Ferentz' guys. With the exception of Joe Philbin early in his career, have any of Kirk's assistants be in-demand?

So while I think Davis deserves a lot of blame for the poor offense, I also believe he is probably hand-cuffed by what he can do because his boss is telling him to stay conservative. And at Davis' age, he knows this is probably his last chance to be an OC and make a decent salary, so he just does what he is told.

And Ferentz has no incentive to change because his boss, Barta, has no leverage to force a change. Barta gave Ferentz the contract with the large buyout, so Barta can not admit that was a mistake without putting his on job in jeopardy. So Gary will simply hope that winning 7 to 8 games a year will keep the gray-hairs happy and the donations flowing in.
