It's Fair to Say We've Hit Rock Bottom

I think it's fair to say this is the worst we've seen the football program for quite some time. Considering Ferentz has been at Iowa for over a decade I think it's unacceptable. This is coming from one of Ferentz's former kool-aid drinkers. No matter what I always stuck up for him and the way he's running the program. I can't do it anymore.

It's hard for me to give KF a passs until next season when he has refused to insert Ruddock or Sokol. Especially against Penn St. It seems like every game I turned to yesterday one of the teams was using 2 QBs. And yesterdays 4th and inches was unacceptable. I screamed at the TV when the punt team came in.

No, we have a long way to go. Wait till losses to Purdue (actually I think we win here), Michigan, and a serious beat down from Nebraska happen. Nebraska is going to be ugly...they will run on the edges all game long...and Martinez's shot putting has gotten much better. It's going to be black Friday alright.

I believe ferentz can take us much lower than our current situation. In the words of Ron White he is going to take us right to the scene of the crash!

this season has a VERY similar feeling to Hayden's final one. The team progressively got worse every week, I'm seeing the same thing with this team. I know ferentz is unfireable but barta sure as hell isn't. Someone needs to answer for this abomination.

Agree with this. If nothing else to get a back-up some reps. Look at Indiana, with Roberson back next year they will have three experienced QBs. Wouldn't that be a nice problem to have.

It's got that "the captain is going down with his ship" type feel to it doesn't it? He absolutely refuses to take Vandy out of the game. It's getting to the point where it's embarrassing. Other teams and coaches have to be scratching their heads.

Don't give up on Kirk yet! He will have Iowa contending for a bowl in 2-3 years. We just need to be patient.

Patient? There's no excuse for some of the decision making we've seen from this coaching staff in the last several years. It has nothing to do with patience. This program shouldn't be at a point where it's going backwards.

This is the worst possible timing for a collapse like this. Of all the years Iowa has a chance to win the Big Ten this year would have been by far the easiest. The Big Ten sucks. Plain and simple. Ohio State is a good team but they aren't even bowl eligible. Outside of Ohio State there isn't a team in the Big Ten that could compete with the top tier programs right now. I'm not even sure Ohio State can. The bottom line is Iowa can't even beat the bad teams in a bad conference. That's how far they've fallen.

If you're referring to 83Hawk, I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.. Or I hope so.

Agreed about the schedule though.. Iowa had it pretty easy in 2011-12 and is playing .500 football, and will likely end up just under that. And from what I'm seeing, OSU and Wisconsin are back on the schedule next year. Not good.

I may be crazy but I don't think we've gotten progressively worse every week. My opinion is we were struggling to find an identity early on and rather than regressing we simply haven't gotten any better. IMO "progressively getting worse" would have meant that we passed the eye test or have played well from day one and I simply don't see it. We've been struggling all season long and I think it's been more of a flat-line in performance then regressing. While I would agree that some players have regressed week after week.

Rock bottom will be after the loss to Purdue. Then the man handling we will receive at Michigan. Then the ultimate spanking and ***** slap Nebby will lay on us in Kinnick to finish the year! Yea, it will be a very long off season this year.

I agree here. The loss of Scherff and Donnal spelled the end for this team offensively. We were actually getting to the point where you had to load up more to stop the run. When those two went down, it's now a much different situation. I actually saw improvement in Vandy against Indiana...we actually had a clue on some of the short yardage passing and he went to the right guy. It was a move the chains offense, even with the limitations on the oline. Then again it was Indiana. The two throws to KMM that were longer than 20 yards were horrific though. My god, how do you practice all year and miss by that much on both of those throws. Both could have been touchdowns.

Ok, so I avoided the boards yesterday because I wanted to avoid the ugliness as much as possible. I nearly didn't watch the game because it's just painful at this point. But as I was watching I noticed something. This isn't as much JVB's fault as I previously thought. Has he been horrible at times? Absolutely. But against Indiana he was serviceable.

No, the game plan and coach's decisions were the glaring problem yesterday. Iowa is consistently being put in a situation that is disadvantageous. From the late calls of getting a play call in (good grief, look at the speed at which Oregon can get a call in . . . they could probably run 4 plays in the time it takes us to run ONE) to the horrible management of down and distance.

I don't know if it's Davis getting "in" to the system yet or not, but the constant has been KF. I wish there was a way we could get the development side of him to stay the same and the fire/creative side to WAKE UP. We're so vanilla the ice cream man is bored with us.

Rock bottom? Ive seen worse, but I don't remember when. I imagine rock bottom is when you rush for about 30 yards, complete <50% of passes, have 6 turn overs and 6+ penalties. Throw in a blocked punt, followed by fumbled K/O return....all that in one game is rock bottom.

rock bottum was when Iowa goes 0-11 or 1-10 now that's rock bottum the 60's and 70's were rock bottum of 19 consecutive losing seasons.. Cumming would have been a hero for winning 4-5 games in a season and a GOD for having 2 wins in the BT.

Iowa also played real non-con teams back then. 3-9 is the new 0-11, and we'll be damn close to 3-9 this year.

I thought the play calling was bad at times and way too predictable. I watched several replays of the "much improved defense" of Indiana on btn final drive and jvb should have called an audible against the fronts he was seeing on run plays. They had the box stacked and a pass play would have been the better decision. I wonder if we would be better off playing football like most other schools that line up early and the coordinators upstairs adjust the play call from the press box.

I think it is clear JVB is not making the proper adjustments at the line of scrimmage and may need some help to get himself in better situations.
