It wasn't the lack of calling the timeout it was the sneak on 4th & 1

that gave them very little chance to win.

Assuming we spiked the ball we have 2 seconds less. You saw the next play a 3 yd pass to Robinson. Even with a timeout all we have is a hail mary to the end zone. We are only at the 36 yard line. Do you really like our chances with Meyer on a 53 yard field goal?

We lost out chance to win when with 22 seconds instead of throwing even if it is a 5-6 yard route and maybe the WR breaks the play. If we throw on 4th & 1 we can throw 3 pass plays setting up a much better field goal.

Who do you want to count on for a big play DJK, McNutt & Reisner or Meyer??????????

I liked the sneak on 4 & 1. If you don't convert there, games over anyway. We had enough time. Yes, you have to throw, but you have the whole field. The reason this hurts so bad is that we have a tough road ahead and I think most of us thought if we could get this one, we should at least get 9 wins and maybe better.

I have to respectably disagree. You should be able to run a QB sneak and spike the ball at the LOS once the ball is set in less than 10 seconds. They were disconbobulated as Stanzi was in the shot gun after the first down.

Plus, who is to say that you complete the pass on 4th and 1 or that it doesn't take just as much time off of the clock?

I maintain you should be able to run a QB sneak for a 1st down and spike the ball without it taking 10 seconds off of the clock.

I agree, and there wasnt alot of critical play calling i liked...

First off, Iowa NEEDED a first down because it was 4th down. Spike the ball, call a play anywhere on the field, call a TO and you give your kicker a chance at least. Pretty damn simple if you ask me.

The sneak was fine; it was Ricky and the rest of the offense now knowing what do after that hurt. Rick was in the gun and looking for a play, Robinson was telling him to spike it.

That's on the coaching staff.

4th and 1 call is fine. You convert, spike the ball and then have the ability to throw the ball anywhere on the field with a TO in your pocket. That may allow a more makable field goal. I wouldn't have complained if we lost by missing a long field goal.

I'm with you Charleston Hawk. Convert, spike, may a throw down the middle, use the TO and get a shot at the fg. We gave them too many things (3 & inches w/in the 10 and come out w/ no points, a couple long kickoff returns, blocked extra pt, fake punt, not being aggressive after we got the int, etc), it shouldn't have came down to this.

Why is it on the coaching staff that Ricky didn't spike the ball? He is a 5th yr senior QB for a D-1 program. The back up QB at my local high schools know to spike the ball in that situation. Pathetic. That is all.

Whats bad about the fake punt is that Wisconsin has run that a couple of times this year, and Iowa was unprepared.

He was looking at the bench for the call and they failed him...

Goes back wayyyy before we were put in the position to have to do weird things.

The FG after the INT was the difference. Make the TD and we force Wisky to abandon the running game.

Coaching cost us this game. Period. If the players made the mistakes, it's because they weren't properly coached. And the fake punt...please... That's the ONE thing you MUST prevent in that situation. NOTHING else matters. This game was as poorly coached as any I can remember for a long time. And the lack of a killer instinct, and a decent kicking game, bit the Hawkeyes again. No reason this game should have been lost. NONE. The coaching staff ought to be embarrassed...

similarly to the way in which you've failed Iowa fans and this particular message board with your absurdities.

I am being completely rational. Did you defend KF on the running plays late against OSU last year? Im sure you did. Its ok to question decisions. I have faith in our staff for 59 minutes of the game, just not the last minute when we are down...

Yeah, why does Ricky even look to the sideline? Unless he's expecting some trickeration?

Then you DON'T have faith. His style has WON more games than lost. Take the good with the bad, that's all there is to it. KF didn't miss the block on the extra pt, didn't bobble the snap on the FG, didn't make stupid mistakes on special teams. Don't blame coaches in a game like this...you just make yourself sound like a sore loser who will be attending the 4th grade on Monday.
