It really comes down to 2 things, go by the computer/SOS, or go by the eyeball

SOS is another factor. Why Gary Barta decided to put together such a terrible non-conference schedule baffles me and I said it when it was released. Even a Drake type team instead of one of those 300 RPI school would have helped a great deal.
The schedule was Fran's idea. And I think he was right. This team began the season very young. They needed the experience and the confidence building. The SOS and the wins are in inverse proportion. Had our SOS been much higher, our wins would be much lower.
This will pay off for us next year. This team will take a quantum leap.

Problem is if you go by the eyeball we only had one decent win.

So...which of the four NCAA tournament teams that Iowa beat is the "decent" win....Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, or Iowa State? And do you mean to say the other three wins would not be? Unbelievable.

Just arguing about why not to eye ball. Illinois struggled in B1G away from home big time. MN was badly wounded against us. ISU can beat almost no one decent away from home. Wisconsin was the good eyeball game.

The computer rankings help.

If you include the Eyeball test you have to include other teams too. Southern Miss and Maryland probably get in then. You can't just say Eye test = Iowa only.

The lowest RPI ever to make the tournament is #64.

Before the 64 it was some other number. Sooner or later a team with a 70+ RPI will make the tournament...not saying it will be this year but the day will come. The make up of the committee is different every year and we don't know what this group is thinking until they grill the chair after the field is revealed.

If the committee is smart they are going to look at a team like Iowa and a team like middle tenn st and say who can compete better and who is going to be a bigger tv draw? No brainer and hopefully that is the case.
