It is not the QB

CJ and Jake are both viable but anybody who watched both this year can't say that Jake doesn't deserve the job right now. Next spring who knows? Whoever gets it isn't going to amount to a hill of beans until we get some WRs who have speed, catch, and can run a proper route.

The problem is with this team is RB and especially WR. Gruden even pointed out that our WR corp was non existent and was running some very poor routes. We need some true WRs with some speed.

I like Weisman. I like his work ethic. He plays hard. Let's get real, and I have said it all year: He is not a RB. He is a fullback. We get a guy in there with some game changing capabilities who can break a long run or take it to the outside and turn the corner will make a huge difference. I appreciate everything Weisman has done but he is not the answer.

I am just tired of everyone dumping on Jake and thinking this is the position that needs changed. QB should not be one of the current concerns at all.

I get the WR thing. But that is not the problem when talking about the deep passing game. He hasnt been hitting his guys all year long. Now maybe they would drop it if he did but that is a different problem. No one can say he can hit the deep ball because he has missed most of the time this year. Im not saying we should change I will leave that to KF. But I can say we have to be able to stretch the defense better. We couldnt score a point yesterday and we had 5 weeks to prepare. I dont know. I was just really dissapointed

I agree. Hawks need to stretch the field to get some underneath stuff open. With Jake, stretching the field is very hard. CJ has the big cannon, and if he is out there, the d-backs immediately have to respect his arm and back off a bit. I really think a lot of our issues getting open are related to no respect for our deep threats.

Ruddock looked distracted and slow to react yesterday. Maybe his knee limited him but When Beathard was blitzed his reactions were much quicker and precise. Most of the time when a defense blitzes someone is open. That is on the QB to make that defense pay. There should be and there will be a competition this spring and in August.

Agree that QB is not the primary issue. Until we get receivers with quickness/speed and who can create separation it will not matter who the QB is. Hawks also need a substantial upgrade at RB to really make this a competitive/dangerous offense.
I think Shaw, Betts, Banks, Russell, Coker, Hampton, Harmon, Bayless, Gill, Bell, etc. could all have easily gained 1,500 yds behind this years O-Line especially considering how weak the Big defenses were this year.
(excluding MSU)

We don't have great skill positions wherever you look. But, until we get a legit QB - someone that will play on Sunday, we will be stuck in this same discussion. A QB can make everyone either look better - or worse.

When has Iowa had a Qb that could play on Sundays?

If you frame the issue as -what's it take to get to the next level and win on January 1, then I say the Qb is the issue..... And so is the RBI who gets most carries...need a more productive offense..dare I say explosive?

JR looked a little frail and scared out there yesterday. Can't do that against SEC teams.
Maybe cause of his injury?
I was disappointed in the whole O package, not excepting anyone including the QB and coordinator.

Riddick didn't throw a tight deep ball all season, and the better teams keyed on that and made us pay.
