It Has Been a GREAT Year for Iowa Basketball

At this point in the season, we are 19-7 and ranked #20 in the nation. We have been competitive in all of our losses. We have 4 road wins in the Big Ten already. Most importantly, we have an excellent chance of finally receiving a bid to the NCAA tournament (for the first time in a very long time).

It has been a very exciting season so far, with many more games to come. The future is bright for Iowa basketball. I'm thrilled with how this team has progressed under Fran. The losses are hard to take, but we have played well, even in the losses, giving great effort.

I just don't see any negatives right now for Iowa basketball, only positives.

It's been a good year for a program that has been horrible for awhile now. What burns some of us, is that a great year was there for the taking.

There have been no bad losses. The team has been competitive in every game. The team has won every game after a loss...not easy to do. We're ranked. It is yet to be determined where we will finish in the B1G. It is yet to be determined if we will win the BTT. It is yet to be determined how far we will go in the NCAA Tourney. When all is said and done you may not consider it a great year. More than "some" of us may very well say it was a great year.

The season isn't completed. We have 5 regular season games remaining, then the BTT and hopefully the NCAA tournament. No reason to feel "burned" just yet

Watch the last five minutes of each of the following games:
Villanova
Iowa State
@Wisconsin
@Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Wisconsin

But mostly I am kidding. You bring some good (and needed) perspective. This year has been pretty good

But that is a fair point. They aren't bad losses on paper, but they are bad losses considering the situations they were in.

a great year is still on the board for this team and it's success won't be determined til the teams last game. Who cares if they won the B1G if they make it to the sweet 16 or further?

I'd love the Sweet Sixteen, but don't discount a regular season conference title, it's been a long time.

We could be 7-19, just sayin.....We have a hell of a lot to be thankful for regarding this year....we started to see it happen last year, it's been better this year, and Fran & Co. are heading in a great direction...the season is far from over, so let's all get after it and finish strong together.......

stop starting positive threads, they have no place on this board.I for one will not think it a great year until McCabe sinks a game winning 3 with time expiring

This is a valiant attempt to be positive. Unfortunately, anyone can post a reply, so it is almost guaranteed to turn into a conversation about someone's negativity. Just seems to work that way on the forum.

I would describe this year as very fun. Iowa is a very exciting, sometimes frustrating, team to watch. Never boring certainly.

Iowa will probably win a few and lose a few the rest of the way. Ultimately for me it comes down to the NCAA tournament. 1 win and I'll be pretty happy with the progress of the program. I felt they were a top 25 team in the nation coming into the year, still do. And those teams should win in the round of 64. 2 wins and a Sweet 16 appearance I'd be ecstatic.

And Fran is 7-4 in neutral floor games the last 2 seasons. Pack the black jerseys, leave IC behind and go to work.

Reasons this has been a GREAT YEAR
19-7 after 26 games
4th place in the B1G and a chance to finish in the top 2
4 road wins in the B1G
beat the red faced cherub on his home floor
we are going to the NCAA touney. People at one point were even calling us a Final Four team
people talking about us because we are relevant again
ALFRORD AND LICK are just a bad memory now
Most exciting basketball since TD was here

Very pleased with season, it is a fact no bad losses. Still work to do, I think the Hawks will be ready for tournament play. Lets all keep it in perspective, this is a heck of a lot better then the Lickliter era! Franny has us goin the right direction. GO HAWKS BEAT THE GOPHERS!!!

Ya, I guess I haven't been this much into a Hawk season for years now.

Lets get out after Minney tomorrow night, bring home a W, and send them off the bubble:)

It has been a very good year. They are so much improved last year and this over the past 6-8 years.

Fran has a past track record of getting good ball players and he needs to keep reloading/

I like his style of play and tough defense so I hope he can keep winning

The caliber of teams that have beaten us is frequently mentioned by myself and many others. Perhaps it will stand out more with a visual. These are the Kenpom rankings of the teams than have beaten us.

Villanova (9)
Iowa State (25)
@Wisconsin (12)
@Michigan (14)
Michigan State (16)
Ohio State (13)
Wisconsin (12)

There's only 1 team on that list not in the top 16. We were in every game...no blowouts. And despite these losses Iowa is still ranked 10th according to Kenpom.

I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again. Our first 2 opponents in the NCAA will be a step down in competition compared to what we've faced in the Big 10. The same is true for the other Big 10 teams on this list. We will have played 9 games against teams in the top 16...before the BTT. We will be ready come NCAA Tourney time.

Good not great. This team is built for greatness. That's the rub.

Looking ahead, you'll see a moderate drop off next year without Marble.

Take off your black and gold glasses and take a good hard look at the talent on this team compared to other upper level teams in the B10 and around the nation. This team is overachieving for the talent on this team.
