It feels like the end....

I'd like to see people keep on tailgating while the game is going on. The empty seats would get noticed.

Yep.... especially by the student athletes, who are still busting their butts every day. It's the wrong message to send to both the current players and recruits.

Everyone is frustrated, but most people had over-inflated expectations to begin with. 2012 wasn't going to be a good year for Hawkeye Football no matter how good the rest of the conference is. Going into this fall, I didn't expect a bowl game. I looked at what we had and wondered where the wins would come from. That said, for the first time in the last 3 years we will return more starters, and starting experience going into next season. Iowa will be on the up and up. Just be patient (some more).

Not true. When people get apathetic the truly stop caring and talking about it. Talking about becoming apathetic isn't being apathetic.

this is true. that last year of Lick, i didn't watch a single game and didn't talk on the b-ball boards. i had literally given up on iowa b-ball. i'm not there with football. would probably take a couple more years of this. man, i hope we don't get to that point.

Good post. Maybe we've been beaten so thoroughly for 2 straight weeks that we'll start losing the energy to be furious, and start being a little more philosophical about the weapons we had going into this season. Remember Jon's preseason post about the defense... that has come home to roost.

However, the young defense, injured OL, etc. do not excuse the performance by the coaching staff. When the margin for error is low, you have to excel at the things you DO control, and they have not: http://www.hawkeyenation.com/forum/football/51983-iowa-football-coaching-staff.html

The problems I see is that the fans have problems with the "the problems will work themselves out without us doing anything differently" mentality. If the teams not that good I'm ok with it if it appears as though everything possible is being done to fix it. Kirk wants to stay with our passing game thats been anything but consistent that's their decision, but why should the fan base accept it with open arms. At this point what would changing personnel or giving the backups a chance hurt.

IMO the passing game is struggling and he wants to stick with his QB, so be it. Yank him along with his first string receivers and tight end and go with all back ups a series or two. That way maybe we can get a better idea of who can throw and who can catch in a game situation vs. a controled practice setting or simply open up the passing game and look to attack down the field. Atleast by going through the motions it gives those outside the program the impression that they would like to fix things. It's the lack of doing anything different that has people unhappy and they rightfully should be.

I'm still on board with this staff and think there is a bright future ahead, but at the same time it scares me because it can easily be a dark and gloomy future if we fail to make necessary adjustments to get things back on track.

I agree, I think a lot of people here don't know what that word means.

I am apathetic towards quilting. Maybe I should go to a quilting message board and tell them I don't care. :D

You don't know what you're missing dude, quilting rocks

What are talking about? You expected to have the worst passing game in the country with a 5th year senior who threw 25 tds last year? You expected abysmal quarterback play and an incompetent offensive scheme?

This schedule was full of crap teams who have equal or lesser talented than Iowa. Why would you expect to lose to them?

With even decent QB play Iowa should be 6-2 right now at worst.

Maybe Davis installed the wrong offensive system that involves the wrong QB. If his track record indicates that he can take a decent QB and run the O around him and the team succeeds then why can't he install the right O for Vandenberg and the rest of the O? Is it lack of talent or the talent is there but wrong system? Answers need to be much more understanding than " we did some good things today, but need a lot of cleaning up to do in other areas".

KF is not the KF of old.
