Is this a one time thing for ISU & WV, or is the B12 making them new "rivals"? Neither team has an actual natural rival, and both sit out on 'islands' not actually bordering other conference states.
Chris Williams tweeted making it sound like the conference wants this to be a rivalry. He doesn't like it and I agree with him. You can't just force a rivalry. However, when they announced this would be nationally televised on ABC, I'm all for ISU getting on tier 1 television as much as possible.

Not really. Iowa & Neb are border states, and have a history of playing each other, and a natural degree of animosity & rivalry between the two fanbases. Just look at how many Nebbies trolled the Hawk boards forever before they joined the conference, and the degree of hate/disdain many western Iowans have for the Neb.
Now ISU & WV have no mutual history at all, they do not border each other, and their fans never thought of each other at all before...maybe this announcement occurred? But like I said, they would make good rivals on two points:
1. They may not border each other, but they also do not border any other B12 states.
2. No B12 schools would consider either one a rival.

Wait Iowa and Nebraska have history? They have played 2 times in 12 years and in 27 games all together, Iowa has only won 12. The last two times they have met, the games have been all Nebraska. Ok you got the border but that doesnt mean its a rivalry game. Wisconsin borders Illinois, is NW and Illinois rivals of Wisconsin? No. Ohio borders Indiana, is OSU rivals with Indiana and Purdue? No. Nebraska's fans are arrogant they will never lower themselves to believe petty Iowa (their opinion) will be a true rival. They think teams with national championships can only be their rivals.

Look, why are you getting your panties in a knot? The laugh is that ISU & WVU might be rivals because they are the odd men out in the B12 - no borders with anyone, not rivals of anyone else. WVU has no history with anyone. So that makes them a good match.
Iowa is Neb's only border state, and has 10x the history with the Huskers than any other B10 team. Playing 27 times is nothing? Find another team that has played them more than 4 times! They also got the name Cornhuskers from the University of Iowa. That makes them a good match.
So WVU/ISU not at all like UI/UNL. But that doesn't mean they can't be rivals going forward. Get it?

Listening to ISUer and his progeny trying to justify their existence has grown so tiresome. ISU is a bottom tier BCS program that scrambles for the scraps of recruits, fans, attention, etc. leftover by Iowa. This will not change no matter how much you or your coach scream "Look at me!".
Cant be too bad if they keep ending up on national tv, have YouTube clips that go viral, players listed all over on watch lists (not just Knott and Klein) and on All American lists, and end up at the ESPY's.
Whats Nebraska vs ISU record?
Saying they have players listed all over on watch lists and all american lists is a bit of a stretch.
Hell even our soon to be backup running back this season is on the Doak Walker watch list.
