ISU hires new coach (per ESPN)

Fits right in. Here's his starting point guard at MSU. Start at about 1:45.

Also, his team last year was 13th in KenPom offensive efficiency and 174th in defensive efficiency. Has anyone ever seen Hoiberg and Prohm in the same place at the same time?

I love how ****** off Clone fans are that they didn't hire their ****** assistant coach. This guy was trying to get the Northern Kentucky job a month ago, you should be glad you're President stepped in and stopped Pollard from hiring TJ without trying to get a better coach.

Murray St.

8th in scoring offense
201 in scoring defense
83rd in FG% def.

ISU

14th in scoring offense
245th in scoring defense
108th in FG% def.

Yep. it really does look like they want to do much of the same thing.

I was just going to say... his style is very similar to Hoibergs. At least it isn't straying too far from it. If I were an ISU fan I would have been hoping for someone who emphasizes defense and rebounding a bit more simply because that has been their weakness in recent years. However, they've certainly found success with this philosophy so I suppose it depends on which way you look at it. Certainly the current team would have benefited from having a coach who could teach them a bit more in terms of defense and effort.

Prohm has had some great guard play at Murray State. I'm guessing he'll love having Monte Morris on his team. He should be able to get a lot out of him.

I'm anxious to hear whether or not TJ is kept on staff. That will be interesting. On one hand, TJ is a proven quality assistant coach and he has familiarity with the ISU team and environment. On the other hand, it would be difficult as a head coach to accept a position where you're basically being told "this guy will be your top assistant". That's not even taking into consideration the fact TJ may not want to stick around (which I doubt).

ISU is a stepping stone job for him.... 3 to 5 yrs tops he's gone. That's regardless of he keeps things rolling there or not. Nice to know that with Frans boys being lined up to come he's pretty much got 10 plus years left. (so long as the program don't crater)

ISU is a stepping stone job for everyone. Everyone who manages to find success there anyways. It's certainly not a destination job. Hell if The Mayor used them as a stepping stone then I don't see anyone, and I mean anyone, wanting to make a long term career out of being a Cyclone.

clownz get their man -nothing like walking into a situation where you win the tournament first year in.....

Must be nice to be considered a final four team even before the season starts. I don't know how Lames does it. They are pretty much a basketball school and have on a pretty consistent basis produced good basketball teams. Only wish we could say that. I know two seasons ago a few talked about Iowa being a final four possibilty but then we went into that tail spin and crashed and burned. I of course am hoping for better things moving ahead. Last year was pretty good for Iowa.

Fred did a hell of a job at ISU during the regular seasons during his time there. Fran has yet to match that level of success but there is a big difference in the quality of the two conferences. Even so there is no reason why he can't. He really really needs to snag a top point guard and a high quality big man to round things out in the next year or two. This upcoming season at this point looks promising with what Fran has coming back and with the freshmen he has coming in and with the big man transfer we got. It should be a fun year for all of us and I hope one that garners the attention and commitments of some of the best high school recruits in the next few years. GO HAWKS GO!!!!

Is that not the most glaring fundamental difference between Iowa and ISU? Iowa is a place people want to be. Outside of Alford he was trying to get out ahead of the posse and then eventually did. (that whole deal had messed up circumstances. If you haven't heard Jon Millers closed door encounter with him I encourage you all to listen to the podcast where he speaks of that) Most coaches come to Iowa wanting to set roots. At ISU they have one foot out the door during the press conference where they are being introduced. Fred was their best chance at having another Johnny Orr. I just think it's funny he's leaving. Now what are the odds he'll coach for ISU again is the next question? Because it's safe to say he won't be in Chicago past 4 or 5 years. So win lose or draw would he rather stay in the NBA after that taste of it or come back home?...

Surprised they couldn't get a flashier name with all the talent coming back next year. A nutless monkey could coach this years ISU team to 20+ wins.

Besides the UAB loss, how exactly did Hoiberg chocke in the post season tourneys? 2-Big 12 tourney titles and 4 NCAA wins?

I don't know a single Hawk fan that actually pimps the fact that AlFraud won 2 B1G tournaments, why do Clowns bring that up like it matters at all? Conference tournament titles only matter if you aren't in already, they do absolutely nothing else. I would trade 1,000,000 Conference tournament titles for 1 REAL CONFERENCE TITLE.

He made it past the first weekend 1 time, and he completely choked this year with his best team to date, that is just a fact. Freddie did a lot of ISU, and brought them back from the dead......yet the Clones certainly aren't what the fans think they are, and that was demonstrated by the coaching candidates that lined up for this job.

That's because Alford won the B10 tournament not the B12 tournament. The B12 teams know that their conference tournament is the real tournament. The NCAA tournament is just a watered down version of that event.

Come back next March and I will show you another choke job. Your new coach has already proven he is good at losing in the conference tourney. 1 NCAA tourney is all he can come up with.
