I am sad for the state of Iowa as it mourns the loss of yet another young lady inside its borders. It is probably sexist of me, but I always tend to feel even worse about senseless violence perpetrated against women. It's just a hair below my contempt for crimes against children.

This tragedy serves as yet another reminder that as far as humans have come we are still so far from divinity.

I shudder when I ponder the world my little girl will be growing up in.

Seriously NO. Iowa violent crimes are 20 percent lower than median.

That said, violent crime has always been a problem. Violent crime has been getting lower across the US.
