ISM - Kick Return Pt 2 with Kirk comment

Kirk talked about this postgame or at the Tuesday presser. KF said there was a miscommunication and that ISM was told not to return this kickoff. Kirk did not order no runback from what he says. Dolph and Eddie said on the radio during gametime that ISM looked mad that he couldnt return it. Somehow probably the special teams coach said dont return it to save some time then Kirk just ran out the clock. Sounded like Kirk wanted a runback if possible.

ISM seems like the kind of player who would want a chance to house a TD right there or anytime. Teams are kicking high to him to let their tacklers get down field an extra 10 yards and this is what Iowa and most teams do.

ISM isn't going to fair catch a ball outside of the endzone unless he understands he's supposed to do that. That either had to come from Woods or Young was yelling at him to fair catch it, and he relied on that.

KF has indicated before that he'll take a shot in those situations if Iowa rips off a big return or a big gain on the first play.

It is my belief that unless the kick was abnormally higher or very deep in the end zone we should be returning everything. With risk comes reward and with all of the bad tackling I keep seeing all over the country I think it is worth it to take a shot. Maybe it would be different if we had an inexperienced returner back there but he is a proven player with a good history of returns

I'd like to add that return coverage is only going to be more inconsistent when teams have this fair catch option. Odds of being able to run one back or for substantial yardage probably goes up a little bit, IMO, if teams don't practice it as much or have to defend the return as much.

As challenged as our offense has been, put him back returning punts.....give him a chance to flip the field position. No doubt teams would have to prepare more for him returning punts.
