Is Western Michigan (2007) Syndrome on the Horizon?????

After I left Kinnick Saturday evening I had this odd thought back to 2007. I couldn't help but compare this next game with Minnesota to the 2007 Western Michigan game. This team is more talented then the 2007 team but that doesn't change the fact they have to go to Minneapolis and freeze their ARRRRSSSS off for a game that really has only pride at stake for their motivation. The thought also brought me back to KF and his FAT CAT comment. You look at a D that struggles to pressure the QB and get of the field on 3rd down. A special teams crew that can't seem to focus and put one game together with out a major mistake and a O-fence that gets going only to shoot themselves in the foot with dumb penalties. I just hope we're not all on this board around 6:00pm Saturday bitc#en and moaning about how the hawks didn't show up!!

I had that fear about the Minnie game prior to the tOSU game.

It is very real and the meltdown would be very real as would the heat under KF's rear end.

I'm not worried about KF's Heat he's a big boy. I'm more concerened with the talanted class we have coming in. If i was a kid and saw Iowa drop a game to Minny I'd think twice.

If this team really has talent and coaches, you will see it Sat. If not, you will see it on Sat.

They will either come together or give up, again. I don't see a 3 point win. Either by 20 or a loss.

I have not seen Minnesota play and don't know all that much about them. But it really concerns me that they beat Illinois which has really improved this year and played better football at times than we have. I don't like the way this team looks mentally right now. If we wilt again against the Gophers Kirk will not enjoy this offseason much once this season mercifully comes to an end.

I agree with the anxiety of the MN game folks this feels like the Drew Tate swan song of a few years ago when we lost to a clearly inferior MN team. The difference between us and Illinois is that the Illini have NO D...they've given 30 plus points several times this year. I think the game Saturday will be much like the MN game up there 2 seasons ago when all it would have taken is one key TO and we might have lost that game.

I have the same concern, and it's largely centered around KFz.

This is precisely the kind of game where the coach needs to get into guy's heads early in the week, that this is a BIG game. Minnesota will be fired up and ready to go...upsetting us will make their season. If we don't match their intensity, we're dead in the water. Let's GO!

Alas...I'm afraid the workman-like mentality that seems at the center of his personality will probably prevent this.

If we show up flat on Saturday... it'll be pretty obvious. And it will be the worst loss of his tenure. Even worse than Western Michigan.

Not a chance. KF isn't gettig fired for going 7-5, the year after an Orange Bowl victory, which was the first BCS Bowl victory for the program in over fifty years.

That's one of those "semi-deceptive" statements as the BCS has only been around since 1998. But I understand your point.

Where in the world did I say that KF would get canned? There is a 0% chance of that. I am saying that the pressure would cook up again, and his seat would start getting warm again.

Jesus, not sure what it is with this board... it's 0 or 100, nothing exists in the middle. I blame politics.

It's about pride and finishing the regular season with a win.

I don't even want to think about a third loss in a row, as that would not be a good way to finish November; a month where the Iowa program is suppose to be at its best.

We have talent.
We have decent-enough coaches.

This is all about pride; pride in themselves and pride in the program.

We shall see.

If that hasn't been a motivator already it ain't gonna be one now.

I'm bracing for the worst.

Worst feeling I have ever had walking out of Kinnick... 2007 Senior Day loss to Western Michigan. Win and go bowling. Lose and go home. You know how it went down...

I also worry that Minny is coming off a bye week, while we are coming off two straight soul-crushing losses. Not exactly great timing for this game.

Are you refering to the 2008 game that we won 55-0?
