Is two conference titles in 15 seasons good enough for you?

I wanted to get a feel from the fan base to see how you all feel about this. I keep hearing about how many players that Iowa sends to the NFL and how amazing it is. My opinion is that if sending players to the NFL doesn't translate to better recruits and more wins, then who really cares?

I feel that when it comes down to it, the measuring stick of a great head coach is conference titles. And in 15 seasons, 2 is pretty sub par. Especially considering how loyal the Iowa fan base is to him. Is this good enough for you????

dobhawk, you have to know this isn't going to end well. This thread is going to get hi-jacked quick.

As I posted in the other thread, I don't believe in the line of thinking that we (as fans) need to hold out a little longer to replace Ferentz because Iowa might not get a better coach. I hate that line of thinking, but I don't think anyone has a choice unless the big donors start turning on KF and Barta and start ponying up the big bucks to replace him, either way they have to pay him.

In my opinion that line of thinking is just delaying the inevitable, that is it. Then again I don't think KF and staff can turn this around. Even Jon admitted he didn't think Ferentz will have another 10+ win season based on the past couple of years. Maybe he doesn't, I for one don't think he will.

No. Not even close. They havent been regular contenders since 2005. 2009 they contended. 1 year in the past 7, Iowa has been in contention. 1 ******* year

I hate that line of thinking as well. You can't operate that way. But like you said, ain't no one digging deep to push KF out anytime soon so it almost seems like a waste of time to even discuss it.

BTW, our recruiting class looks average yet again. Not even one four star as of yet.

If you are going to compare solely on star rankings, it all depends on the sites. Scout has some 2* guys (no 4*'s) but 247sports has Trevon Young as a 4*, which whom might not be coming now. And ESPN Wisnieski as a 4* guy, who is a TE and Iowa is loaded right now so he will probably redshirt.

3* is average, you are correct, but it is definitely better than mostly 2* guys like in '08 with no 4* guys and 12 guys who were 2*. Then '09 with 2 - 4* guys (Keenan Davis and Wegher), but also had 13 - 2* guys.

That is 25 - 2 star players in two years ('08-'09).

Then in '10 they had 5 - 2* guys, then '11 they had 5 - 2* guys, then in '12 they had another 5 - 2* guys. Then so far in the '13 class as stated above 0 - 2* guys. Given this year isn't done but less than 50 days away.

That is 15 - 2 star players in the last 4 years ('10, '11, '12 and '13).

25 in 2 years, then 15 in the past 4, this is improved recruiting. But none of that matters unless they play well on the field.

All of the star rankings above are from Rivals where I compared the years and stars.

I got $10 right now, what does that get?

You are right, waste of time discussing it but this off season we don't have too much to do besides watch the basketball team, besides that I am going to watch 2-3 bowl games and that is it.

I didn't call him a hater and call out his hatred for KF and this staff but that is because I agree with him.

I was merely saying that from 2008 to 2009 Iowa had 25 - 2* guys, in the past 4, they had 15 - 2* guys. That was it recruiting has improved (a little bit) but doesn't mean jack squat as they haven't proved anything on the field.

I think recruiting is only part of the problem, the coach won't adapt that is just as important.

Legendary because he took over one of the very worst football programs in the country & in just a couple years was beating Nebraska and Penn State and going to a Rose Bowl.

Sounds a little like KF coming here and beating Michigan and PSU and going to the Orange Bowl in year 4.

I know the program hadnt been through 17 straight losing seasons but there was a definite void of talent.
