Is this strike or an early red flag against Fran????

Of course transfers can happen with coaching changes. However, how much of this is on Fran? This is one of the things that we were critical about on Lickliter about losing players to transfer.

I did not say it was a strike against Fran to be clear. But, I don't like seeing these mass transfers regardless. Just an honest question considering this is the type of problem we were critical with Lickliter on. Like I said, transfers can happen with coaching changes. But, it still does slightly concern me about selling the program to the current/former players.

On the bright side, I hope that we can replace these losses with a higher quality athlete. Fran's recruiting job just got that much more challenging.

there's only been one transfer

I'm not advocating the truth of the report (in fact I find it extremely hard to believe), but go read the front page of BGHP for an alleged reason why recruits are asking for releases, involving Caff's discussions with them.

I know BGHP is usually all about humor, but this is something for which they claim to have sources.

For all intent purposes, we have lost Fuller to transfer, Larson will go somewhere else most likely, so that is 2 gone right now.

Brust rumors are out there along with Brommer and Archie. So, I it looks quite likely it will turn into a mass transfer situation.

What exactly is being said on BGHP?

If Brommer and Archie leave we should have a party. Larson and Brust wouldnt be transfers since they never came to Iowa. Technicality i know but still

Consider who their only possible sources could be, either Larson or Brust. Nobody else will know how McCaffery was selling himself. And its quite possible they were both loyal Lick guys or just trying to rationalize why they don't want to go to Iowa anymore. And from Miller's reports it sounded like Larson has enjoyed listening to other schools for awhile now. They maybe over-sensitive to McCaffery "differentiating" himself from Lick and view it as bashing as well. And as is always true in coaching, the coach really doesn't get to defend himself from these "reports."

While I agree that the signed recruits and their families would be the only direct sources of that information, I wouldn't assume that BGHP has had any contact with them. More likely they've spoken to someone who has been in contact with a recruit or two.

I have a wild guess as to who that could be.

You can't put it entirely on him. But to say he has no responsibility at all would be incorrect too. Yeah he doesn't have his staff, but it should be easier to recruit players on the team already then to start with someone in high school, in most cases. But Fuller could have already been decided on the leave.

Kids will leave, its part of the change over. Why get riled about it, allow FM to get the kids he wants and those who want to play for him. I am tired of the last few years of excuses for Lickliter no succeeding because they arent "his" players, the sooner he has flushed out kids who arent committed, the sooner the transition can get on with it. Plus, when you just listen to comments from the former IOWA players recently, they werent very complimentary about the talent level on hand, neither was Painter, so to lose kids and to (hopefully) upgrade with better ones is bad how?

I also noticed that the report referenced in BHGP was from Brommelkamp, who was very tight with the previous regime, so will his anger influence his views/reports?

Yeah but even if Fran proves to be a good recruiter, its going to be hard for him to fill 3 scholies this late in the game. We're just going to have to hope for a diamond in the rough, or a lucky decommit that comes here.

But Fran should assemble his staff not just to get to recruiting, but so he can actually provide some good news after the Fuller/Larsen let down.

Bank a couple scholies unless he can find some good players. The last thing we need is to take on a couple projects. Were going to suck anyways, might as well stash a couple

Brommelkamp was close to Cornette and has been critical of Barta's decision to fire Lick...I suspect he is going to make sure he trashes Fran if he can...true or not.
